I bought the MP10 simply because I got a great deal on one.

    Wasnt my first choice:

    1) The upper will only work with the S&W MP10 lower.
    2) Same for the lower - Only works with the S&W MP10 upper.
    3) Have to drill out the factory CA bullet buton to switch over to featureless.

    Things I like:

    1) Very accurate out to 800 yards (furthest I've tested it)
    2) Run PMags
    3) Eats all ammo
    4) Great value.

I've seen them new as low as $900 range. I bought mine for $750 which was about the same cost as just the DPMS uppers I was considering.

Then I built an AR10 pistol....

Hey Randall, where do you get those big quarters?

Not far off of my "around $800". I didn't include price for a stock & buffer tube because I already had one laying around, but even if I didn't, A2 stocks are cheap. I also pieced together a LPK from spare parts & horsetrading, but have since upgraded to a CMC. I didn't include that because it wasn't needed - I already had useable lower parts for no cash outlay. Shipping charges were insignificant. Everything was purchased with other orders from other people and shipping was split up. I doubt it cost me more than $20 for all of it.

Don't get me wrong, you can't get these prices 24/7-365. It took me almost a year of shopping around, and not everyone has parts laying around, or know people that do. But if you're not in a hurry, network & shop around, you can build a nice shooter for less than you can buy one.
But you keep saying $800 to encourage others to build their own instead of buying one. So if someone took your advice, they would be very dissapointed when the build is easily closer to $1k for a basic build. Even if they spent a year looking for deals like you did, the stock and LPK would easily put them over the $1k mark and they might regret not buying a pre built rifle for the same price without the headaches of figuring out what parts will work together. Especially whe you can add another easy $100 for shipping, taxes, transfer and dros fees.

I have less than $1500 into each of my 308 builds. The one on top is a 80 that I pieced together and the bottom one is my Salt works rifle company hunting build.

I'm sure the quarter measures around 0.95" like all other quarters.
The 1" grids on the target should show that...

$929 is a LOT closer to $1000 than it is to $800.

So if we add say $50 for an A2 stock and $50 for a LPK and $50 to correct the Saltworks receiver set price to current day prices and $71 in shipping since other people would be ordering the parts JUST for the one build and $100 in tax/DROS, we get a more realistic build price of about $1250 which is MUCH more realistic than the $800 you keep claiming...

Which is within $40.00 of the price for the CMMG I linked earlier in the thread.
