First time AR owner here, heck first long gun period!!!

Yes folks, I finally became a long gun owner. Long story short, a friend was in a pinch and needed to dump a few guns quick. This AR 10 shown below caught my attention.

Having only familiarized myself with the AR-15 in the Army (we tanker's carry pistols ) and only shooting one once in the past 20 years, I don't really know anything about the AR platform, other than it can be modded to your hearts content. I did consult a few bud's prior to purchase and they said buy it, even before I had a chance to see it.

Here's what I know about it:

Aero Precision Lower - M5, multi caliber
Upper and BCG is unknown, but I'm guessing it's also from AP, at least the upper, but seriously...I have no idea and he can't remember either.
    STR butt stock
    16" barrel - maker unknown
Zeiss Terra 3x scope, I didn't measure it yet, but I'm guessing it's the 4-12x42 model
    Leupold Mark 2 scope mount

Oh, a 360' swivel bi-pod and a 10/30 round mag also come with it, he just didn't have them with him tonight.

    Low round count.

Everything feels tight with no slop or play anywhere. My neighbor says I'm one lucky azz bastahd.

I did a quick google search of the products that I was able to identify and guestimated the others, rough estimate puts the value at around $1500 or so if I bought the stuff new.

What'd I give for it???? I paid $600 for it.

Did I do good or what?

Now to get some mags & ammo and learn how to shoot this beast!

    Thanks for looking.

You got a good deal on a working rifle. I would check out some different longer handguard options. Dump that gas block for a low profile, maybe even a nice adjustable. That way you can put a longer rail on and get your hand out there further as well as place the bipod further up. I imagine its pretty rear heavy woth the short handguard and heavy bcg and receivers back there. I think you have a darm good start OP. Now bring it up to date and make it yours.

Get some 10/20 pmags or just 10 round standards if you dont mind the short body. Zqi has inexoensive .308 sold by walmart. My favorite is PPU 145 grain as it is inexpensive at around 12-13$ a box, very clean and reliable. Ppu also makes a good match 168 grain hollow point boat tail for more accuracy at a great lrice of aroud 15$ a box some times. Also if you wanna go real cheap tula and wolf can be had for under 10$ per 20.

Nice. Yup you did good. Watch out - those things are contagious! Once you have one (and start shooting it) you always seems to want more!

I don't recall you being a jerk or unreasonable, and on the internet, that makes you above average.

Have fun with your new rifle!

Sounds like a really good deal bro, good catch, enjoy!

I agree with a longer rail though.

You got a great deal. Except the upper is not an Aero. It looks more like a DPMS Oracle complete upper with a different handguard. A M5 stripped upper, 12"-15" handguard and adjustable gas block will take it to the next level.
