I'm looking for a better muzzle brake to replace the factory muzzle brakes for my Colt 6920 and 6940. Would this be considered an upgrade for both ARs? Or are there better ones?

The blog "The Truth About Guns" did an interesting test of about 60 brakes/comps. Some cool data. And a number of surprises in terms of very popular products that performed rather poorly. Google "truth about guns muzzle" and you'll find the two articles. My personal blog: The Damn True Experiment -
I did. That's where I found that the M4-72 is the best.Comment

That brake is expensive, and the first port is doing all the work, the other 2 are just getting dirty.
Check these out, I use both and they're fantastic.

And do you really think you will be able to perceive a 10% difference across the top 1/3 of the brakes tested?
Download the excel doc with the raw data from the tests.
Look at the VALUE of the $30 strike industries Jcomp with a 62% recoil reduction (just 11% behind the 3x more expensive M4-72)Last edited by ar15barrels; 08-08-2015, 1:44 AM.Randall Rausch

Should be a factory compensator in the form of a birdcage flash hider, not a brake. I am not familiar with the one you linked to, but it is listed as a compensator, though the description sounds like both a compensator and a brake and it appears to be a brake.
These are 5.56 right? A muzzle brake on a 5.56 is overkill. It would be like putting airbags on a Razor scooter.Originally posted by Ant45Plenty of people who don't frequent internet forums are blissfully unaware that their guns suck.I don't understand. Does Strike Industries make their own muzzle devices in USA? I know some of their stuff is produced overseas. Not a big deal for some, but a very nice part of the firearms industry is so much is produced/supported here. And do you really think you will be able to perceive a 10% difference across the top 1/3 of the brakes tested?

No idea.
I was just comparing the value of the product by looking at it's performance and price on the excel file.
It's not like a muzzle device is a mission-critical part like a barrel/bolt or gas block.Randall Rausch

Yep, gonna be hard to perceive a small difference like that. SF procomp is also excellent for the priceAnd do you really think you will be able to perceive a 10% difference across the top 1/3 of the brakes tested?

They'd also tear up the inside of your casehttp://ordainedarms.com/store/product4.html
I'm tempted to get this one just for kicks.
This one has a pretty good review AND it can potentially turn the AR into a good stabbing weapon when out of ammo.Originally posted by CSACANNONEERA real live woman is more expensive than a fleshlight. Which would you rather have?Comment

Damn, I didn't think of that. Well, the Dragon Spitzlead is out of production and no one sells it anywhere. I'm still interested in the Heartbreak tho.
I read that it's not that easy to replace a muzzle brake, because if done incorrectly I could mess up the barrel. Should I find a gunsmith to do the job if I ever decide replace my flash hider with a muzzle brake?Comment
