Just picked up an ACOG with the Doctor Optic on top. The red dot Doctor Optic is 7MOA. However it is smaller and has an open view design to it, and I am finding it pretty good for both eyes open like my aimpoints. I am getting to like this setup a lot. When the Doc on top becomes a little less useful I simply move down to the ACOG for 4x with an illuminated reticle and 5.56 range estimation.

Depends on what you're doing and where.

A dedicated red dot can't be beat if your primary engagement distance is 0-200yds.

It's when things open up that an ACOG becomes nice.

I just with the Docter set-up was available on the TA11 series. To do it yourself adds about $300 to the price of the TA31 versions.

It's also not an option for 3-gun, since it puts you in open class (2 optics).

Aimpoints are more for quick target acquisition than long range shooting. For 200 yards, I'd much rather use magnified optics than a red dot.

true, depending on what you are doing criteria changes i feel however acog + doctor give you cqb abilities along with ability to engage targets more precisely than a red dot and confirm positive identification of personal and objects at distance than you can with a dedicated reddot. eotech or aimpoint + magnifier is same idea just different hardware.
