    Upgrade Buffer Spring

I recently got annoyed by the twang by the carbine spring in my buffer while shooting and asked a few friends about some possible ways to quiet it down.

I got a few different answers but here a few that stuck out. I've read into all 3 that im going to list but not sure what route to go. What do you all suggest?

    1. JP Enterprise Tuned and Polished Spring

    2. Tubbs SpeedLocks System Flat Wire Spring

    3. Red Oil Mix (depends on who you ask, but some kind of ATF Fluid, Hoppes 9 and/or Synthetic Motor oil)

    4. Suck it up and shoot

    Thanks and Please vote

Not interested in the JP Captured spring buffer system (http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPSCS-15)?

I got a JP SCS on another build. I'm just looking for a cheaper alternative. At the most, the listed above are all less than $30 shipped.

Best bang for the buck; Damage Industries enhanced recoil springs:

*How can I eliminate the “SPROING” noise in my AR stock?
Close off the gas tube or buy a different type semi auto rifle.
*How do I eliminate recoil in my AR?
Put a .22 LR conversion kit in it. This also eliminates the “SPROING” noise.

Seriously. You need to appreciate the "sproing" noise in an AR like we appreciate the "ping" of an M1 Garand clip after the eighth shot.

Haha its not that bad. It just seemed like it has gotten louder the last time I went out though. I thought I'd take a poll and see what the consensus says.

I was expecting this reply sooner or later hence the reason I put choice number 4. I actually use a stethoscope as ear plugs and I use the diaphragm as a cheek riser

I will look into Louder AMMO War Wagon and def check out DI and SpringCo Big Pimpin and Brassbullets.

Don't get the JP. $130 for that is a scam. $130 to make the "sproing" go away is nonsensible. That money would be better spent on ammo or if you need a great buffer system, the Vltor A5. The A5 was made at the request of the Marine Corps and the heavier buffer will increase reliability and make for a more pleasant recoil impulse.

I have the SCS that I bought used here on CGN to try it out first. It does eliminate the twang and sproing and it does run pretty smooth. The JP part I was referring too was just the spring they offer http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPS-OSC. Ive read on another "AR" site that some users were running them and were happy. Like I said its not a deal buster but I just threw it out there to get some opinions.

Now my wifes AR does have the Vltor A5 buffer kit with an adjustable gas block and that thing is nice. A little jealous I'm not going to lie. Her and the kids love it.

The JP tuned and polished spring he is talking about is only $20. My vote is JP. It will help some but what I have found is it is the machining of the tube itself. If you can run your fingernail on the inside of the tube and feel ridges, then a new tube will cut the noise way down.

you can grease it but you will have a bit of a mark on your shirt from when a little bit squirts out the hole in the back

I've used Wolff brand springs in every gun I own for over 20 years, including AR's. I would trust Sprinco & JP, I have friends that use 'em.

AR's make noise, so do M1's. Get over the newschool idealogy & get used to it. Or start greasing tubes & tweaking on stuff.
