This thread will be for the posting of information for the 9mm AR 15. (including pistol-length builds)
Parts, complete builds, deals, how-to, etc.
I only ask that all comments/discussions be on topic.
Pictures and descriptions of builds are encouraged
-----------------------------------------------------------
Brief history...
The 9mm AR history has it's roots with the Colt 9mm SMG.

Rock River and a few others offer similar AR type platforms.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Individual stripped lowers are available from QC10(DDLES), CMMG, Lone Wolf and others.
Some use Glock magazines, some use Colt SMG type mags.
80% lowers are becoming more available as we speak.
Currently Palmetto State Defense (colt) and New Frontier (Glock) are here.
I don't use magwell adapters, others will chime in on those at some point.
I feel that the cost associated ($150-200) with adapters doesn't make it as cost effective than
just getting a dedicated lower.
You can buy a kit from Palmetto State Armory, or anyone else that sells kits and go from there.
Palmetto now sells a Glock magazine compatible lower.
Unknown if it will have a BB for it. And it only comes as a complete lower at this time.
The parts you will need for a 9mm build are listed below.
LOWER PARTS
stripped 9mm lower (or AR15 lower w/ magwell adapter)
Lower Parts Kit (9mm hammer required if using non-ramped bolt
buffer tube/spring/buffer (9mm dedicated buffer may be needed)
buttstock
Bullet button or build featureless.
UPPER PARTS
Barrel (any 9mm AR type barrel with 9mm extension)
Upper receiver (any upper receiver should work)
I like slick side uppers.
Bolt (ramped bolt for standard hammer---9mm hammer for non-ramped bolt)
AND...bolts used for Glock mags will need to be shaved for the magazine lips.
Lone wolf and others offer this service.
Handguard w/ barrel nut
muzzle device (most 9mm barrel threads are 1/2 x 36)
NO GAS BLOCK/GAS TUBE ARE NEEDED.
It is a blow-back type of operation.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that you have built it, you need to check the action.
With the gun EMPTY and UNLOADED....
1st make sure the hammer and bolt work smoothly.
Trigger should reset as the bolt goes back. (hold trigger/pull charging handle)
2nd check the length of stroke of the bolt.
It should move back far enough to clear the BHO with a 3/16 to 3/8"
Most 9mm AR builds require a spacer in the rear of the buffer tube.
I use a 3/8" to 1/2" plastic disc to shorten the stroke.
You may also need to do some other fine tuning with the spring for reliable operation.
