    CMP Purchase

    Has anyone ever bought an M1 through the CMP?

    If so, a few questions:

    I know you have to complete a firearms course, like an NRA class. I heard somewhere by hat a range officer can sign something in place of that. What is that?

    And- do they ship it to your door? Or does an FFL have to receive it and bill you $60?

      usually you need to be in a rifle club that shoots qualification matches and now in Cali you need a C&R FFL and a COE to get it sent to your door. I think there are exemptions for former military from the shooting requirement..not sure..ask in the C&R section for more info.

The federal law that established the new CMP authorizes the Corporation to sell surplus .30 and.22 caliber military rifles, genuine U.S. military-issued M1911A1 pistols, parts and ammunition to qualified U.S. citizens “for marksmanship”. Accordingly, the CMP sells government-surplus M1 Garands, .22 caliber target rifles, genuine U.S. military-issued, field-tested M1911A1 pistols and small quantities of other rifles to qualified purchasers. Order Limits Effective January 7, 2025: Customers are allowed to purchase up to twelve (12) surplus rifles (any type) per year. This limit excludes .22 rifles.  Effective May 2025: The lifetime purchase limit of 1911 surplus pistols has been updated from two (2) pistol to four (4) pistols. Surplus Ammo Limit: 2,000 rounds per caliber per year.Commercial Ammo Limit: None  Please note: The CMP strictly enforces the limits referenced above.               I just got my M1 last Friday with C&R and COE to my door in a little less than month.

                  No shipping to doorstep anymore unless you have C&R FFL and COE.
                  Otherwise its to the FFL and pay their fee, DROS, and sales tax.

                  You have to be a member of an affiliated club. Super easy you can always join the Garand Collectors Association online.

                  And you have to prove you know how to shoot a gun safely. Ive heard people that just sent in their Hunters Safety certificate. Theres also a range safety officer affidavit you could do. Or you could shoot in a CMP style match and send in your scorecard. Its pretty easy.

                  The CMP is looking to qualify you not disqualify you.

                  Go to their website and follow the directions. If you cant follow the directions your too flakey to own a firearm anyway.

                      I used my C&R and COE to get it shipped to my door. I used my handgun safety card for the qualification and joined Chabot Gun Club for the qualifying organization. I have had two sent to me now.
