    Comparing two scopes-Trijicon vs. Vortex

I'm looking for a scope for my AR 15. Found two scopes:

    and

The price difference is huge, but it seems like the Vortex can be just as effective as the Trijicon. What am I missing here? I'm new to scopes so I can't really tell the difference.

The ACOG is one of the toughest optics to ever grace the battlefield.
They do not require a battery for illumination. It also has outstanding clarity. With a little training it is very easy to use and very versatile as a combat optic. At a fixed 4x magnification it will let you ID and engage man sized targets all the way from spitting distance to several hundred yards out.

The Vortex is kind of an entry level sporting scope. Not anywhere as durable. Clarity won't be as good either. It has much higher magnification that is adjustable, which can be handy. Not ideal for close up work if need be.
It's probably adequate for a recreational target shooter or occasional hunter.

These are honestly two very very different optics at the end of the day

I have both, Idk what you plan on using it for. The acog I don't particularly care for. It's really expensive and close up shots aren't comfortable. I also have the 3x9 , I have it on a dmr noveske. I also have a Burris fast fire on the dmr. Vortex warranty is unbeatable.

You are not using it correctly then. The ACOG is designed to be as a "red dot" type no magnification scope up close. Look at the target with your non dominant eye and you will see the reticle right where it needs to be.

The other thing is that those two options are miles apart in specs and uses. It is really apples to oranges.

What type of shooting are you doing?

You are looking at two very different optics...

You might want to start your search by defining your application / how you intend or use the rifle / what type of shooting you like to do....

You have a world of options in between those two price ranges as well.

If you don't have any preferences regarding what types of optics you like, you should probably head down to you local store and check out some of these things in person to give you an idea of what to expect.

Check out the Trijicon tr24 and tr25. Those might fill the gap in what you're looking for. Vortex also makes a nice $500 1-4 illuminated optic the viper pst 1-4
