Why no 357 mag semi auto rifle?

I know there are plenty of 357 mag lever rifle out there, but why haven't anyone build a 357 mag semi auto rifle (I can't find one anywhere)? I think 357 mag is one of the best pistol caliber to benefit out of a longer barrel.

Rimmed vs. Rimless cartridge most likely.

Not enough demand to bother designing or adapting an existing action to work with it, you'd need to make a reliable magazine for a rimmed cartridge(possible as a tube magazine, but most people would probably prefer a detachable box magazine. Although a rotary magazine should be able to do it easily, but then the capacity is limited), you'd likely lose the ability to swap between .38spl and .357mag without having to do something to the action to make it work(changing out springs, or something in a gas system), and by the time you've worked all that out...

Then you've got to ask "who is going to buy it?". Yeah, obviously there are some people who would buy such a rifle without a second thought. But is that enough of a market to justify the money spent on R&D(as opposed to making a well established bolt/lever action)? Is it for plinkers? Hunters? What's the cost per round for the average person compared to something in another cartridge? Is it powerful enough for game compared to other plentiful rifles chambered in other cartridges? Can you sell enough to get the cost per unit down to a point people are willing to buy, and still make a profit?

I suspect most companies will not be able to answer enough of those questions favorably to even consider spending the time to develop and produce one.

Ruger could resurrect their 44 Mag carbine in .357. It seems lately that pistol-caliber carbines have enjoyed a small surge in popularity, and having a semi-auto .357 (even with a very limited capacity like the .44Mag carbine was) would be a decent seller.

          Good answer ^^^^from Merc...

Years ago an Israeli company marketed the TimberWolf in .357 and .44 mag. It was a pump action and before I could muster up the funds they went out of business.

I could build a gen 4 glock carbine in 10mm from off the shelf parts and a custom barrel... not cheap but it should be pretty easy..... could run featureless

Muzzle energy in ft/lbs approx. can vary with load and barrel but for discussion sake:
                          9mm handgun 325
                          357M handgun 450
                          357M carbine 1100
                          30 carbine 1100
                          458 socom 2400
It looks like 30 carbine has the space already covered. I was shooting my M1 carbine last week and reminded myself of how nice it is e.g feature-less plus hi-cap preban mags, accurate and reliable, low recoil and light to carry. Shot 100 rounds of reloads with no FTF or FTE. 50 to 150 yds not much drop. I do enjoy my 357 and 44 lever guns but can't think of a compelling reason for rim cased semi-auto.

There really is no demand for it. Ruger did have a 44 carbine that can work with 357 Magnum. I'm sure if Ruger gets lots of request they can bring it back and maybe a 357 version. Unfortunately the demand is not there. Most folks want tacticool looking guns. I have a Marlin Camp 9 and it's about the sweetest carbine to team up with my 5906 and 6906.

They already make it. It's called the M1 Carbine.
