    Kydex templates?

So I've finally had it with the stupid AK bullet buttons and am going to wrap my grip. I refuse to pay 40something bucks for a store made one so I have 2 sheets coming my way and some chicago screws from amazon for 15 bucks. Was wondering if any of you guys had/used templates to get your grips close the first try. I'm running the standard black polymer PG like this one. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. Please move mod's if so.

I wrap the grip then trim to fit afterwards. I also tend to use a minimum of .080 kydex so the fin doesn't flex as much.

Some use paper templates and then copy that onto the kydex before wrapping the grip. If you use a template, make sure to take into consideration if it's going to be Ambi or more right/left bias

BTW - there is no such thing as a standard black polymer grip when forming these. A black grip between different manufacturers vary greatly in size and dimension

ok so the .060 would be a bit too wimpy? if I go with the .080 what depth Chicago screws should I end up getting?

And I know theres a ton of different AK grips...thats why I included a pic of what mine looks like. I thought it was the kind of "standard" AK-103 style grip.

in my opinion .060 is too thin, but that's just my opinion.

I use 3/16" screws but I use that with a rubber washer so that the screws have tension and don't loosen up.

I did a mockup with cardboard first, then I used that as a template.

I use the .060 it works fine. don't make a template just wrap the grip and then trim the excess.

Or you can just send munkeeboi $25 bucks and it'll be done right and be at your door in a few days.
