    Lower Gas Block Height BUIS??

I would like to mount a BUIS to my gas block. However, it is the shorter gas block, so not all will work. I have a set of Magpul MBUS polymer sights. I believe (but not sure) that mounting the MBUS on the quad rail will not work very well (carbine-sight radius too short?).

So, what to do? Sell the MBUS set and buy a new set? Use the MBUS rear and just get a different front sight? I am not set on a folding front sight.

This is a budget gun. Something to get my feet wet before building a really nice gun.

    Thanks in advance.

I've seen risers that you can place between the block and BUS.

Don't mount polymer BUIS on gas block, unless you want it to melt.

If you want to go cheap, you can get a fixed gas block sight off ebay or something. You can find them for as little as $10. When it comes to something with minimal moving parts or places to wear I'm not too concerned about China stuff. I'd be more cautious with a muzzle device, gas block, etc.

This also^ especially if you plan on doing any rapid fire.

Sight radius is way over rated. You will never notice a difference with the sight on the carbine length rail vs the gas block.

Just buy a gas-block height front sight.

I have this one from Midwest Industries and it's great.

While I agree you probably won't notice that difference, you absolutely will notice the difference between a carbine rail mounted gas block and an extended rifle length rail mounted gas block, an extra 8" is significant.

Assuming the quad rail is fixed to the upper receiver (i.e. not a drop-in unit that replaces the stock plastic handguard), mounting the front sight on it should be fine.

If you need to mount on the gas block you will need the correct height riser and it would be a good idea to get a metal front sight.

Buying a Yankee Hill Machine gas block front sight and rear. Out of town for a few days. Stay tuned for a like new set of Magpul MBUS polymer sights in the Marketplace forum...
