AR 10 ?

I picked up a DPMS upper in 7.62 at the Reno Gun Show (I think I grabbed about the only one there) and am matching it to a POF lower. There's a bit of up & down slop in the rear and that's what I want to eliminate.

I could use the "Accu Wedge" but don't want to do an add on fix, JP Enterpises has a tightening rear pin, I could go for that in the end but I don't want to have to screw & unscrew the thing.

There's looseness because the rear takedown pin hole on the upper receiver sits too low in relation to the rear takedown pin holes on the receiver and thus to the the takedown pin. In short, a small space opens between the underside of the hinge pin and the takedown pin hole when pressing down.

This drives me nuts. Is it practical to shim the bottom of the takedown pin hole on the upper receiver, then fit the hole to the receiver and takedown pin?

Do what ya gotta do. The slop wont affect your rifle, just your sanity. I hear this kind stuff all the time, thats why I go Armalite compatible. Even on a Hesse, the fit was great!

I've always heard that it doesn't affect accuracy - you're right about my sanity though. My mostly bolt action shooting brain just can't believe all that wiggle room and up & down, left to right, is a good thing. I don't quite understand how it doesn't affect accuracy.

Cuz the upper holds the barrel, bolt and optic. They all move at the same time in the same way. As long as you can see it in your optic the barrel is pointing the same direction.

You might try this.

Tape up your lower and spray the area where the upper and lower meet with rubberized spray paint. Do that until you reach the desired thickness and you have no more play between the two.

My buddy did this with his AR and it worked.

Use a 9/16x 1/16 wall diamiter O ring around the front pivit pin boss. This will take the looseness out of the assembly.
