    Ruger SR-556 Takedown

Looks like Ruger is taking their takedown concept to the SR-556 rifle:

Also looks like they are using the Magpul SL furniture. It is quite pricey though.

Wonder if Ruger will offer a takedown AR-556?

IMHO, seems kind of gimmicky as is. Sure you can quick detach the barrel but you still have the rail sticking out. Not to mention its easy to just pull two pins out already.

However if they offer an assortment of barrel lengths then cool. If they offer caliber conversion kits then freaking awesome!

Looks like they have a 300 Blackout barrel kit as well, from the Ruger video:

Looks more like their venture into interchangeable calibers ala the MCX and tavor

Turners is taking pre-orders... 1700+ (I dont remember exact price)...

Aside from caliber change - I agree with West9319, it's kinda gimmicky.

Probably cheaper to have a decent lower and two uppers.

I dunno. It's piston right? I think the standard SR 556 is like 1400 or so? Maybe I'm way off. What's a quality piston AR cost? I could be wrong but isn't the SR 556 well regarded? Dunno

Yes, it's the piston rifle. It's been on the the market for awhile now so hopefully Ruger worked out all the kinks.

The LWRC are well regarded but they are quite pricey. The Sig piston AR are a bit cheaper but they seem to be a hit or miss on quality.

SR556 TD is pointless. The great thing about the 10/22 TD is that it shortens the rifle so it can be stored in a small container like a backpack.

This is nothing but a piston AR with interchangeable barrels. That can be accomplished by changing uppers on a regular AR. I'm not a Ruger hater, I have a few, but this is dopey. Why don't they just sell a 300BK upper?
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

because their brilliant team thought a 300 blk mini-14 would be a great idea

it does seem a bit steep on the price, but I bet the price will come down a bit.

looks like there are a lot of features and value there, regardless of how pointless you may think the takedown option is

                        - the magpul furniture on it is a big plus
                        - doesn't help us CA residents, but that video stated it comes with 3 30 round mags
                        - upgraded trigger (I didn't like the ruger drop in AR trigger, but some really do)
                        - piston system (love it or hate it, but it will add to the price)
                        - BCG - don't know exactly what it was, but didn't look like a standard phosphate unit
                        - sights are installed
                        - the rail is part of the upper.
                        - **probably a pretty nice barrel - chrome lined, etc although id like to see it in 1:7

They just want in on the MCX and other "interchangeable" gun market. Whatever that is. The guns it's probably targeted against are also pricey. So in that respect the price probably isn't far off. The MCX combo package is what just north of 2 grand? What does a tavor cost? Same as this. Granted that's a bullpup and has a lot more exotic sexy factor than a piston AR. The ARX? I dunno. It's not for everyone but someone out there is interested in piston guns that are pretty easy to change out the barrels on
