I slightly taper one end of the roll pin using my vise - very very slight taper, you almost can't see the tapering. It helps to get that roll pin past the off centered tube or block. Use the proper sized roll pin punch. I bought a set from Brownell and use it every time. I also stick a clothing pin through the roll pin from the other side to line up the roll pin in order to get it straight.

I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

but the OP has an issue with the tube to the block... does pinning the block to the barrel help that?

It's usually the gas tube with the misalignment.
If they didn't line up I would modify the gas tube with a dremel before putting a drill through the gas block pin hole.

sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

I went down to rifle gear and got a few more roll pins. Plus I have a set of roll pin punches on the way from Amazon.
I really appreciate all the info guys, this is my second AR but my first ground up build so I am very inexperienced (lots of you tube videos)

I know AR15barrels is an expert, but I wouldn't drill the GB. If your GB is so crummy that the holes don't line up then you should find a better quality GB.
It is a radical arms gas block and the top pin came with the melonited gas tube

As I said, you are the expert. I just wouldn't tell a home gun builder to run a drill through for obvious reasons.
