    Where are the M1A's?

I have been calling everywhere for an M1A Scout and not only does nobody have them in stock in their stores nor their warehouses, but supposedly Springfield said it may take up to 4 months to ship them out again. Can anyone evrify this?

I was asking around about 6-8 months ago, and some dealers said they were busy filling orders for Iraq and Afghanistan to put some .308's in infantry squads for some designated marksman. I got one already, but I had noticed that the shelves were getting bare of M1A's. A guy at work was trying to buy a SA 1911, and he was also told SA items are coming slow off the line and he had to wait 2-3 months to get one.

Local shop just got or I should say "had" two of them. One standard with walnut stock and the other was a National Match with black stock. My friend bought the standard and when we picked it up today the black one was gone.

I'd like the Scout myself but I feel they are too expensive. My friend paid $1,750 plus tax, dros, etc. If they were lighter weight I could somehow justify the cost because it could double as a hunting rifle but it's far too heavy for that. I want one but I won't let myself spend that much!

The scout squad has been harder to find then the standards or socoms for some time now. Rarely do I see scout squads in the racks. One shop told me you don't see as many scouts because Springfield has been focusing more on selling the socom. Makes sense since I always see socoms at the stores.

Side note: I don't think Springfield makes a NM in a black stock. Could have been a loaded or super match. Not that it matters, looks like we won't be buying it

I head once that they only produced the models in "runs"....Like a few weeks of standard production, then the National Match, then the Scouts, etc, etc...

If that is the case- you won't see one for a while. Buy what you can....I believe the parts and gas systems on the Scout / Standard models are interchangable- so you could always get an 18" bbl later......

Scouts have traditionally been harder to find, even without the current madness. As mentioned, it is correct to my knowledge Springfield makes them in batch runs, and in my own opinion probably in lower amounts when the SOCOM models started to be produced.

I found another one very recently with a really tight build from Springy and bought it. They are out there, but with this Obama bubble I am sure they are flying off the walls.

I haven't heard word one about SA providing 14's - Smith Enterprises is preping refurb'd 14's, and the Marines have their own in-house refurb program.

Here's a pic of 14's with Fischer cans at SEI ready for shipment:

Springfield is going through the same thing every other manufacturer is at this time - increased demand, and possibly supply problems.

City Arms had a Socom II when I was there on Tuesday, but I think they sold it right after I left.
