    Mini 14 Tactical Model 5848

    Greetings.

Anyone have information on Ruger Mini 14 "Tactical"? I received an update today from Davidson's that they are now available (though not in stock).

Apparently same specs as the Ruger NRA Model, but no photo is provided.

    Appreciate any information.

    Thanks.

Tactical and mini-14 have no relation to one another besides the color black!
Save the heart burn just go with a ar series rifle.

He might want a Cal-legal rifle to use his old high caps in.

They may be talking about the Mini-14 GB. They have the standard stock but a flash hider and modified front sight. The flash hider would make it a Cali No No unless you locked the magazine or replaced it with a muzzle brake. Unfortunately, the threading on the flash hider is not the same as for ARs

The Mini is a fine rifle and with a little work can be a decent shooter. It isn't as fine a military rifle as an AR, but they are more than adequate for 99.999% of any of our needs and given the political climate here in the PRK, a more than viable option for those wanting a semi auto carbine.

If I had to use a rifle for self defense here in the PRK, from a legal standpoint, I'd much rather the police find me with a Mini than with an OLL, and I don't think the shortcomings of the mini compared to the AR are going to make any difference. This is why when I head into the woods or mountains, it's my mini (or my SOCOM) that is with me and not my OLLs.

Thanks for the replies and information.

Still haven't been able to find any official information online. It strikes me that Ruger may be releasing a rifle with the same specs as the NRA Mini but without the NRA branding or price.

If this is the case, I'll be sure to pick one up.

            Thanks again.

Ruger has manufactured a 16 in barrel LE version (no threaded muzzle or bayonet mount) since about 2004 in the newer 580 series. I bought one and should have never sold it. It was a great shooter and is basically the NRA model with a black synthetic stock and the receiver is stamped "For law enforcement use only".

There is also a new GB model sold to LE that comes stock with the SCAR stock from the factory. Obviously this one would need a fixed mag since it has a flash supressor, colapsible stock and pistol grip (all AW features).
