Maybe try giving them a call and actually speak to someone.

Yeah, I guess I'll try that. It would just be nice if they confirmed that there's something wrong, and that the next one wouldn't be that way.

I got an email reply after going through a few people and was told this is how all of them are. I was hoping it was inexpensive rather than cheap... I don't see how it would be any more expensive to make it hold the upper straight. It's strange that some people are saying theirs hold their uppers straight, I don't know whether the person I emailed is full of ****, or if it's a different batch, or what.

I've never had a problem with a home brew AR. Then again, I've never tried to build one for as cheap as possible...

Well I can assure you that they are all not like that. Mine fits perfectly straight as it should.

              Here's what I sent them:
I recently bought a Kley-Zion Armors AR15/M4 Barrel Spline Socket Rod from you, and found that the flats on it aren't quite vertical when it's inserted into the barrel extension. http://lolinter.net/ar/IMG_0417.JPG shows it, I checked on a few uppers and it was at the same angle on all of them.

I'd like to get one that holds the upper upright when clamped in a vice, and was offered an RMA, but don't want to send it back if the replacement is this way too. Are they supposed to hold the upper straight?

              thanks,
              -Daniel
              Here's the response I got:
              Thank you for your email.

All of the KZ socket rods are the same as the unit you have received. If you would like to give another unit a try you may send back your current one for an exchange or you may return the unit for refund.

              Regards,
              Curnisha

Maybe there were previous batches that held it straight but new ones aren't or something. It's just annoying, but it is a cheap tool. If friends ask I'll suggest something else.

another thought... I built my first AR, put the lower together myself. But I chose to take all the parts for my upper and pay $40 to have it assembled. Easy for me to justify because I had to have the FH welded, but I also didn't feel like I missed out on the "experience" by having them put it together for me. I still did all the research, bought what I wanted based on that, and wound up with a bad *** rifle.
                  Just a thought.... Good luck!

I had ASSumed that the cheaper one would sacrifice machining quality, finish quality, and probably material quality... didn't figure they'd do this poor of a design.

Franken gun is an idiot term like an idiot scratch on a 1911, who cares it is a gun. Not to stir up the dim wit but an AR is no more than a bunch of parts from various contractors assembled in to a complete rifle or carbine.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

i guess it depends on whether or not the rifle was being sold on the secondary market. i would definitely want to know if the gun was a frankengun or not.
