If I purchased a STG-556 with the scope rail and now I decided I want the origional scope carying handle instead, can I buy one seperately and change it out? If so, where do I find one?

Thanks for the tips guys.
I'll definately check out those options. Anyone know of a website that sells them directly?
Why Is the scope trash? Is it because it's only 1.5x-1.7x? I bought the gun more for a collection, I've heard the scope sucks (although I'm not sure why) but I think I want it as close to the origional as possible.Comment

The scopes are made in Japan, from what I've read. I haven't read anything bad
about the scope. Japan makes nice optics. The new scopes will be made in the USA. I like the original look also.
Can't see myself adding a acog, because I can't afford one..
2024 New Year?s resolution will be no posting..

The original Steyr AUG carry handle 1.5x scopes are made by Swavorski to give you an idea of their quality although I"m not fond of the donut reticle

although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"Comment

I looked through one at a gun show before I heard of this problem. I didnt notice anything particularly bad or good when I looked at it although I wasn't looking for anything in particular. It sure didn't look like that blurry mess hawk1 posted hahaComment

Here, I'll tell you.
I have a genuine Steyr AUG. When you throw it to your shoulder with both eyes open, the eye relief is dead on through the reticule. Swarovski optics are literally crystal clear (they're Austrian crystal, not glass) and it appears to you that your dominant eye is magnified just a smidge. Scan the rifle around onto distant targets and the scope never ghosts out. It stays crystal clear and perfectly focused. The dot/crosshair setup is just perfect for finding targets without obscuration.
Now, for the MSAR-556 I tried out:
I raised it to my shoulder and hunted around for focus like I was looking through a cheap pair of whack-assed Cap'n Crunch toy binoculars that I got as a prize inside a cereal box. When I finally found focus, I was looking at a German-style post with interrupted crosshairs that were the size of polska kielbasas. The glass looked like it was made of the finest McDonald-land collector's glass glaziering that pocket change could buy. When I adjusted, the sight picture disappeared and the scope blacked out like someone turned off a TV I was watching. Just rotten. There's a reason people that own MSARs are throwing the awful factory optics into the street.
Like I said, stick with the rail and mount an ACOG on top.Last edited by Pvt. Cowboy; 11-20-2008, 8:39 PM.Comment

I just ordered an aimpoint compc3 from SWFA for my STG556. SWFA is giving a free mount kit with the optic. With shipping, it came to 400.Co-Founder of the Contra Costa Contras shooting teamComment
