    Bushmaster XM15 Coyote Gun/SHTF rifle.

    Folks,

I have 3 rifles in 6.5x55, a Tikka T3 sporter, Savage 111, and a Howa 1500. All of which I am extremely happy with. BUT I did a trip to Angeles Forest for some coyote hunting.
The lightest rifle I have is my Howa, and it does not have a detachable magazine. A number of problems I had with the Howa, too long, heavy, and no magazine to keep the rounds in. SO, I had some lowers, and built up a M4 carbine that will be equipped with a Redfield Revenge, 3x9x42 hunter reticle.
The upper is a Bushmaster XM15 16" m4 profile 1:9 twist. Going to using 62 grain Barnes boatail. The lower is equipped with a Spikes tactical single stage for now, until I can get more scratch for a Rock River 2 stage, or a timney. Any comments , are welcome. A2

I've shot coyotes just as dead with an AR than with anything else, but I prefer a lighter weapon in this application.

AR has an Armalite lower with Timney, upper is also Armalite with a fiberglass free-float handguard and a 20" SS target barrel, scope is a Nikon 3-9. She prints 5-shot clover leaves all day long. But she is a bit to lug around.

What I prefer to shoot is a C&R Remington 760 slide gun in .257 Roberts...I use reloads with light bullets. Scope is a vintage Weaver in, iirc, 3-9X or so. Extremely light weight but only 5 bullets available with one in the chamber and a full magazine.

What kind of accuracy are you getting with the XM15? I had two long ago that were atrocious... Basically 8moa rifles on a good day, using the sling moved the groups 2 inches left.

Just wondering if they have gotten better?

I thought HOWAs have detachable mags?

Any excuse to assemble another AR clone huh?

I agree that a heavy rifle is a pain while stalking but if I'm glassing open ground then it doesn't matter. Shooting sticks and bi-pod options are always present.
What kind of sling are you using?
