    New toy???? SCAR vs SIG556

I have been going back and forth here. Buy a SCAR 17S or a SIG556. OK I realize these are very different but they are the 2 rifles that interest me. Guess I’m just wondering if it’s worth the extra money for the SCAR. The reality is I’m not going to battle, don’t do 3 gun and it will probably see the range plinking 5 times a year. I already have a few 308’s (m1A, FAL,LR308) and like them a lot. But honestly my XM15 will do anything they will do at the ranges I shoot. I guess what I’m getting at is, is the SCAR really going to be that much of an upgrade if I’m just casually plinking at the range? Or do you really need to be shooting longer range or 3 gun to take advantage of the SCAR? Is the SCAR guna be any better for a guy on a range with a 250 yard max range? 2.5 times the price but will there really be any advantage for my shooting style?

I guess my point is I do believe the SCAR is the better gun. But with my style of shooting will I really notice any difference, enough of a difference to justify 2.5 times the price. Reality is both these guns are probably capable of more than me. haha

    PS. Bought a Shield yesterday!

IMHO no it would not be very practical or advantageous to get a SCAR 17 for what you intend to do. I mean you can get a better long range setup with a bolt action like a 700 with upgrades and a really nice scope for the price of the SCAR 17s alone.

Get the SCAR. Its on my short list as well. Buy it, shoot it, keep it or sell when you've tired of it. Theres really no downside.

My vote would be for the Scar17. It is lighter and has better ergonomics than the 308's that you currently own. If you have the money go for it. The only negatives are the cost, the FDE can come in multiple shades if that bugs you, and they can damage cheap optics. I am sure others will chime in shortly.

My SCAR 17 is one of my favorite rifles to shoot. If you have the cash, I say go for the SCAR.

If money is not a problem then go for it. I have the Scar 17 BLACK and I love it! Downside to it is you will lose 2 features for kommiefornia, ie folding stock and the ambidextrous mag release. Yes it sucks but doesn't bug me at all. Keep in mind it is loud due to having a muzzle break to keep that recoil low. I'm loud and proud of it. It only takes proprietary magazines from FNH unless you want to pay another $300-$450 for a lower that will take everything else except for the FNH stuff. I'm fine with FNH stuff, if I can pay $2600 for mine I can pay for FNH magazines. Charging handle reciprocates so if your the type to keep his damn thumb up then your gonna get whacked like my coworker did when we did a company training shoot and I told him before hand too. Trigger should have been better from the get go with a super scar trigger ($325) as your paying this much. I don't mind at all as I don't do 3 gun but other tacticool shiz & giggles with friends in Vegas. Technically this would be my 2nd one but I sold my 1st one to pay for medical bills along with my other guns but got it again on my birthday in 2013. Can't comment on SIG556 as I have yet to shoot one let alone any friends that have one.

The scar is a good rifle but the price has kept me from buying it too. It's a good rifle but not $2500 good. Once prices come down, I'll get one. Otherwise it'll be on my list for long term acquisition.

My SCAR 17 ships the end of this week and I couldn't be happier....well I mean I wish it wasn't costing an arm and a leg to deck it out, but it was worth it to me

If you have an M1A and a FAL, I don't think you'll be that impressed with the SCAR. It's just another .308 gun...just my opinion.

Remember that if you buy a Sig 556 used, you get no warranty.

I actually already have SCAR mags. I bought kit’s before the laws changed knowing I want one eventually.

I still have pre 2000 mags I bought intending to someday get the gun for but haven’t yet. haha

Definitely get the 17. I have a feeling once you have it you will make an effort to go somewhere besides your local range and many more times per year. It just does that to you. Just because you dont "need" it shouldn't stop you from getting it if you want it. You will not regret it. I payed off a 17s over 5 months after getting my first gun, an ar15 that was inexpensive, set up how i like it and "can do it all" but i knew i had to get a 17 not cuz i meeded it, because they are damn cool and extremely nice rifles. Yes it was pricey, no i dint regret it. Im finishing paymentd on a 16s next week and i cant wait. Hit up audiophil2 for your 17.
