I see nothing custom about a firearm assembled from off the shelf parts. That price is about $1000 high.

I talked with the gun shop owner and he said the price of the components was $2600 -- At that point I ordered a Scar 17 as I didn't want to get into taking on an unfired AR and have to deal with tuning it. I will save that for the future after doing more reading and research so I know what to expect.

Thanks again to all for the great advice!

That's retail pricing. Unfired or not those parts are used.

                • Black Rain Ordnance Receiver
                • Black Rain Ordnance Lower
                • Black Rain Ordnance Rail

I would appreciate advice as to what I need to obtain more information about and how to best value the rifle. The shop has it listed at $2200.

                Thanks!
The barrel description is quite vague. On a "custom AR" you'd expect to see more details, especially on the most vital component.

Midway has an LR308 upper, chambered in 308 with a 24" barrel for $800. They have a 338 Fed upper for $1100.

Pretty sure you can build a lower for much less than $1100.

One of my ARs I built is chambered in 6mm Fat Rat. That's a custom AR and I don't have $2200 into it (with dies Im close though) but its not a lr308 either.

Depends what you want ,.308 AR are nothing exciting unless it's LWRC repr.Just a oversize AR -15 .I say get the SCAR 17,new and differant. The bad iis price of mags ,unless you have old FN FAL mags around,to modify to work in the SCAR 17 .The SCAR mags are 35 bucks each, for either 10 or 20 round mags.

Not a lot of "gunsmithing" involved in an AR build. You don't want to be paying somebody $60-80 bucks an hour just for basic assembly work you can do yourself.

                          Ar 10

did more contemplating and I found that on your post you are in Cameron park. that being the case the Ar you saw is located at Sierra. If that is the case the chances are the rifle is one I have on consignment there. I will be picking it up tomorrow Fri. that's why it's advertised on Calguns.
I know the builder of that gun and it has been test fired. Also the Black rain people will stand behind their products.
If you are still looking for one email me at berncat@att.net
