Bored with the ar and rifles in general?

Well gentlemen, to start this off I built an ar last year, and sold it about 6 months later, fast forward to now and kind of going through the same feeling. Have an ar but just do not get the enjoyment out of shooting it like I do with handguns, actually considering selling or trading it for a Glock chambered in .40 but wanted to ask what you guys do when things get stagnant?

Swap over to my ak. Dont stack up only on ars... get aks, tavor, augs, etc etc.

Compete. I can't remember the last time I went to the range just to plink or shoot at whatever was there. Every day at the range is practice to get better and shoot a better match than I did last time.

Come out to a Highpower match sometime. If you are in SoCal check us out here. If not I can hook you up with the NorCal crew.

Sign up for an Appleseed weekend. If you are still bored with rifle marksmanship, just clean it and put it away for a while and continue to focus on your handgun skills. Eventually you'll come back around to wanting to shoot it, probably. If not, well, at least you are an armed American.

Take rifle classes. Once I started that, I only go to the range to zero in new rifles or optics. But shooting will get much more expensive. $150-$250/day vs. $15-20/day at the range.

Don't shoot so much you get bored!Take a 2-3 weeks off ,then go again. Before I bought my house I couldn't get enough range time, now I shoot enough to maintain my classification.
                    Keep it simple!

Only accurate rifles are interesting, if you are just plinking, it gets boring fast.

While I have yet to do it, milotrain's suggestion seems viable. If you ever think you are getting too good, competition, timed courses, 3 gun, etc. seem like they would make me less bored really quickly, just like getting my CCW and training to run, draw and shoot drills, taking cover while firing drills, etc. did with pistol shooting. Moving yourself and your rifle and or shooting at moving targets makes paper and steel punching while standing there or worse, at a bench, seem positively pointless. How can you get bored when shooting while moving is so challenging?

I have the opposite feelings about handguns vs my rifles.

I started to feel the same way but mostly because I was shooting at a range. Take it outdoors especially to BLM land and unleash the thunder. Its like a girl taking off her bra...very liberating but I don't want to be on the receiving end of the muzzle flash. Do transitions between weapons and run some drills. Shoot some steel and instead of benching shoot off hand and see how challenging it can be.

Build another AR. Different barrel, stock, optics, hg, etc. keeps your mind active and interested. So many options out there.
