brother to brother requires you to do a PPT at a dealer. You can't just fill out a form and send it in.

You can do paperless longgun transfers directly up-down the family tree, grandparent, parent, child, with no paperwork at all.

Yes, as long as the adult child receiving the firearm is not in a prohibited category [PDF 10 kb / 1 pg] and the firearm is a legal firearm to possess, the transfer of a firearm between a parent and child or a grandparent and grandchild is exempt from the dealer transfer requirement. However, if the firearm is a handgun, you must submit an Report of Operation of Law or Intra-Familial Handgun Transaction [PDF 481 kb / 2 pg] and $19 fee to the DOJ within 30 days. Assault weapons may not be transferred in this fashion. See Penal Code section 12285, subdivision (b).

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I just did the same thing. I bought my brother a Centermass receiver for all of his old 7.62x39mm Colt parts for X-mas...

(I wonder how Jesus would feel about that ) jk

You can do it one of two ways: either buy it under your name and transfer it to him sometime after X-mas (to keep it a surprise) or, take him to the shop, give him the money and let him pick it out on his own and DROS it himself...

You can still give it to him for xmas though. If you already own the OLL then you gift wrap it and still give it to him on xmas but tell him that the very next day or when ever the FFL is open to go PPT it. If you havent bough it yet but you still want the effect of a gun in a gift package then you buy it dros it and what not and give it to him for xmas but the same thing tell him the next day to PPT it. He can even take it home the same day , i think a week or ten days ? I dont know what is the ammount of time you can loan a firearm.

Just make sure he can own one. and be sure to do the PPT the next businesday available
