Sorry if this is a dupe, but what are your thoughts on keeping two lower recievers for your modular platforms? One completed 80% and one DROSed stripped. You could go from "ghost" back to "registered" and vice versa with ease. Also before you buy the proverbial farm you could make all your evil arms transferable. Stupid? Not worth it? Good idea in theory?

Nope, nothing illegal. Just on the rare chance the Jade Helm disarmament crew rolls thru you could hand over all your DROSed lowers with a smile. Secondly I like building 80's, but I would hate to spend thousands of dollars and not be able to pass them on when I pass on.Comment

Depends on how fast you see it coming and how big of a haystack you have for all your needles. Rural areas may have the advantage in that regard.Comment

And what happens when they say: "Where's the rest of the parts? Right, men: rip the place apart and find the rest of these guns. Oh, and haul this smart-guy off to the FEMA camp."

1) Just hand over the DROSed lower; you don't need an 80% to keep the upper, stock, etc. You can obtain a new lower if/when needed.Nope, nothing illegal. 2) Just pass on everything but the 80% lower, let your heirs obtain a new lower.
Edit: Or, as pointed out above, if whatever law is passed that authorizes disarmament covers more than just lowers, then a spare won't do you much good.Last edited by m850168; 05-13-2015, 1:26 PM.Comment

Wouldn't the advantage of it being a ghost is that no one would be the wiser if your kids quietly took possession of them on your passing? At anytime they could just claim that they built them could they not? With no records or traceable serial numbers.....who's gonna know?Nope, nothing illegal. I guess you're implying that every lower in your possession must have all the associated parts to a complete firearm? I'm sure many people have lowers stacked like cord wood just cuz they can and it's legal.
"Rip the place apart"? What if "the place" is thousands of acres spread across multiple counties?Comment

If I'm a Europeon low level UN functionary going door to door to confiscate weapons from irrationally aggressive and violent Americans, and I'm handed a lower that has obviously been part of a functioning rifle I'm going to wonder what happened to the rest of the firearm.
I'm sure that you'll tell us after a few weeks in a re-education camp. We have ways, you know.

I thought 80% need to be marked with a serial numbers/caliber type/manufacture location if one wanted to sell or pass it on to a son/daughter? Then either dros it or do an Intrafamilial transfer on it. Also the FED's have no idea what long gun you have prior to 2014. They just know you did a background check. Wouldn't they need to go to the drosing FFL and seize the paper work to figure out the long gun/serial number? Sorry if I am way off. someone will chime in and correct me.Nope, nothing illegal.
