Depends on what you want to use it for. If you want just to plink and carry it around then a shorter barrel will work but if you want to target shoot from the bench then a 20" barrel is the ticket. I have a 10/22 target model and I installed a 20" fluted stainless Green Mountain barrel and the rifle will shoot 1 hole 10 shot groups @ 50yds.

A buddy of mine has an INCREDIBLE barrel with "Midway" etched on the side. Never seen another one like it, but its the most accurate .22 I've seen...light, beautiful blueing, super accurate... but I can't find another one like it for mine.

Heard great things about green Mt barrels. Very popular from what ive seen, and wonderfully accurate for the price.

Green mountain is the way to go. I can enlarge the same hole over and over again at 30-50 yards while using CCI green tag ammo. Quality ammo will make your rifle extremely accurate.

Ditto to GM. I've got that same one in black on mine.

Same specs with mine. I can nail anything with that gun, within range of course.

GM. Mine shoots as well as any Volquartsen. If you are shooting offhand and using a synthetic stock, you might want to weigh the butt down as it will be a bit muzzle heavy. 18 or 16" should balance nicely. IMHO anything over 18" is a waste on a 22. Most people don't do distance shooting with a 22.

It all depends on what you want it for. For a hunter/plinker/bench rifle I like Volquartsen THM carbon fiber, Kidd and R/T Quantum. Super accurate! For the bench and off-hand target I like the super accurate Kidd for the extra weight. For a sleeper, I like the factory contour Shaw.

But if money is tight there is nothing wrong with Green Mountain.

Volquartsen THM CF 18.5" with compensator

                    Kidd 20"

                    Rimfire Technologies 19" Quantum

                    E.R. Shaw 18" fluted

                      I have one of those.

I'm not sure who the OEM was, but midway offered them years ago in a "stock/barrel" package. I bought that package like 11-12 years ago and still have the barrel. The gun still shoots wonderfully. Mine's stainless though.

Willing to part with it for cash/trade? It'd go great with my stainless receiver I've been looking to build...

Green Mtn. 20" for me too. Plus 2" inches of compensator.
Shoots well - And, I just like the looks of the longer barrels.

                              OEM barrel. I like a bone-stock 10/22.
