    follow the flow chart.
Generally speaking your FFL will make sure that it is CA compliant prior to transferring otherwise they themselves may be on the hook for illegal AW transfer.

But just spend some time with the flow charts and you will be fine

Sig 556 classic seems most popular because it's front heavy and a rail (sig 556 swat has a heavy quad rail) only exacerbates that. it uses a standard bb or raddlock however the upper has the serial number so you can have the lower sent to you and mod it yourself. Also side folding is very easy to disable And will be necessary if you don't get an extended muzzle brake/flash hider.

I certainly don’t feel like the Golani is a go to SHTF gun (though mine works well with the right mag). I do really like the way it feels when I shoot it. Hard to explain but when I shoot my M1A I just like the way it feels when it goes bang. I feel the same about the Golani. It just feels “right” when I pull the trigger. I like the way it feels better than my AR or AK. This doesn’t mean it’s the best gun, just a fun toy I enjoy shooting. I have most of the guns that have been mentioned in this thread as an alternative (though my Saiga isn’t 5.56). For a SHTF gun I wouldn’t choose the Golani as the best buy. As a fun toy I enjoy shooting at a reasonable price I would buy again. For SHTF an AR is hard to beat, Saiga looks great but with current prices (and mag prices) you can probably get the AR and mags cheaper.

And yes I have been considering a Sig 5.56. Better gun, better for SHTF, whatever. Just another fun toy to me.

Galil's might actually be available in the mid-future (2-3 years) from a new company...

Not much to tell right now, but I know a company is looking to get the go-ahead/help from IWI to start up US production of them.

There is a parts kit clone in the Marketplace right now:

5.56 ammo was hard to get in the last ammo scare. I think it's fantasy that your going to find it when you really need it. The only types of ammo to be found were the oddball calibers that were not popular and not hoarded. You would think .22lr would never be in short supply either. Just shows the common calibers get hit first.

True, to my recall the first calibers to return after Sandy Hook were .40, .32, 380 and 12 gauge, followed by 7.62x39 then 5.45x39.

                        9mm, .45 and 5.56 came back much later. And .22LR still hasn't.

But, really, the only reliable source for ammo in SHTF is your safe. Unless you're bugging out, then it's your trunk. Stock up, guys.

I don't know what your budget is but you could give something like this a hard look too.

I am not really sure we consider the same things as SHTF. I do not really equate sandy hook to SHTF. I am just looking at 5.56 and .223 as some of the most wide spread just in sheer numbers in the United States.

Secondly I feel that the Galil is a very capable platform and I feel that the ergonomics on it are superior to a AKM platform. But i would as mention before watch out on Centuries build qualities. My Golani is a great shooter, but has some cosmetic issues. Personally I could give a hoot about how my guns look, long as they go bang every time I want them to. But please do not be turned off by the whole Galil platform based on one companies hit and miss reputation I feel it truly is a great platform.

Yeah im drawn to the Galil ergonomically and mechanically... just seems like there's enough options for it in CA by companies.

The Golani doesn't look bad, I mean, it can be upgraded to run smoother no?

Cosmetics are not a big concern. Just reliability and feeding.
