Well screwing around with my buddies AR with a bb and figured out a way to make it KAL legal for him but when he visits out of state he can quickly fix it to drop mags like a normal rifle.
What you do is if you have to back out the collar on the mag catch that installs inside the BB body. Its threaded portion protrudes just enough so that you can thread on a small tapered screw (I used something like this about 1/4 long)
What happens is that when the screw is threaded on to the now protruding BB collar threads, it is just long enough to actuate the mag release. (you have to use a short screw so that when you depress it, you don't over travel the mag catch, then it wont hang up on the receiver) When you remove the screw, the BB remains unable to be depressed without a tool. So all he needs to do is thread on that screw in about 4 seconds and he's gtg.
