FTE with Green Mountain Barrel on 10/22

I just came from the range. Yesterday I installed my Green Mountain 20" SS barrel and my Fajen adjustable stock. I accuarized the barrel using the shoot 10 rounds then clean, all the way up to 100 rounds. That was using CCI mini mags, without any problems. I then tried the Federal bulk pack, and started having FTE with almost every other round. I didn't have the same trouble when I shot it before I changed the barrel. Is that something common when you swiitch barrels or did i mess something up? Since it wasn't extracting properly, do I need to change the extractor? Also when I examined the brass on the floor, many of them were swished, what's that indicate?

GM barrels have a tight chamber. Try one of the aftermarket extractors. Like the Volquartsen.

Ok, I'll try switching it. Would the ammo do it as well?

Get several different types of match grade ammo and see what it likes.
You won't be using bulk-pack ammo for the precision rifle matches so don't worry that your match chambered barrel won't run the cheap ammo.

Try getting the Volquartsen extractor. I have an A&B barrel from midway that had the same problem because of the chamber. The new extractor fixed it. I had failure to feed issues with butler creek mags with the new extractor. Factory mags worked fine. You can get the extractor here, $11 with free shipping. http://www.hawktecharms.com/ruger/10-22.htm

I too had the same issue when I rebarrelled my 29 year old 10/22 and needed the mag coupler for my bullpup in .17hmr.

This site sells both , thanks for the lead guys. Looks like I'll finally get my rimfires up and running shortly!

Blowback actions such as the ruger 10/22 do NOT rely on the extractor to pull the fired case out of the chamber.
The pressure inside the case pushes the case out of the chamber and the fired case pushes the bolt back.

The extractor is ONLY used to extract unfired rounds from the chamber.

If the gun is failing to extract fired cases, it's not an extractor problem.
                It's a lube/friction/spring/chamber/ammo problem.
