Piston Upper Issues

I have a Adam Arms piston upper and I have been having issues with it when I fire the weapon the bolt cycles enough to engage the hammer but it does not not give enough power to eject the spent cartridge. I have adjusted the gas settings to the suppressed setting, but it renders the gun a bolt action and does not cycle at all. I am thinking I am having a gas bleed or I might need a different buffer tube spring.

Has anyone had similar issues?

My LWRC doesn't have an adjustable gas system. The ones that do, the suppressed position is like firing a bolt action that requires manual cycling.
Mine has an H2 buffer. You might need a lighter buffer if it's not a gas port problem.

So in the 12 o'clock position it wasn't cycling? Pull you piston out of the front remove the spring and bushing off the piston reassemble lock your bolt open and rock the gun back and forth it should move freely. If it doesn't something is off or possibly dirty but assuming it's clean it should move freely.

Was it one you built or did u change anything like add a rail that maybe wasn't relieved for a piston kit?

Came from a fully built upper I have done nothing besides wipe the packing grease off the bolt and upper receiver.
It is in the 12oclock moved it to the 1 oclock and it ran like a bolt gun.

What length system are you running? As well as buffer?

Adams arms says to use standard carbine buffers with their uppers or they will short stroke. No H or H2 buffers. Ran into that problem but solved it once i found that out. Also, their COR upper is the softest shooting upper ive ever shot. Interstingly it uses a rifle length gas system with a 16.5in barrel. Also, it requires a rifle buffer, rifle buffer tube, and a CARBINE spring. Interesting combo but makes for a super soft shooting gun.

What ammo are you using? Is this all ammo across the board or have you only been using one brand/type.

I had a similar issue with mine. First and foremost make sure you have the correct buffer and spring installed. If you are good to go there than check to see if the cam pin is dragging on the top right side of the upper. If it is than you have an out of alignment buffer tube. Usually cants up and will cause the carrier to tilt, which allows the can pin to strike the pocket. Magpul or other quality buffer tube will fix the issue. Hope this helps.

I ran into an issue when I was using a BCM changing handle with an otherwise out-of-the-box Adams Arms piston upper. I never had FTEs but the bolt carrier would stop right after the casing was ejected and before it got to the bolt catch. Kinda a weird place to stop.

If you take the upper off, leave the charging handle locked forward, tilt the muzzle up about 30-40 degrees while holding the bolt carrier in place, and then let go of the bolt carrier does it slide cleanly all the way to the back of the upper?

Mine would get stuck about half way. I changed charging handles and it resolved the issue.

Were the gas rings mistakenly left on the bolt? I've seen that cause short stroking before. Double check that, just in case.

What ammo are you using? Is this all ammo across the board or have you only been using one brand/type.

I have used about 4 different kinds of ammo, Winchester White Box, American Eagle, Wolf Gold, and XM193.

Got it fixed by switching to stock buffer spring and buffer.
