    ak help.

I was taking my hand guards off my npap to refinish. In the process of doing so i over extended my safety and it poped out of the spring. Now I cant get it back down and am not entirely sure how the spring goes back in.

Im new to ak's and feel like this is a dumb question but cant seem to figure it out.

Do I need to take the trigger out to get the safety to go back down and which way does the spring go?

    Which spring ?
    The shepards hook?

If so you need a degree in Eastern Bloc wizardry to install it (try YouTube).

Or you could just make life easier and buy a retainer plate flat spring

It was the shepards hook for the safety selector. I figured out that goes but I still cant get the selector to go back down.

Did you try and pull the selector away from the receiver? Might be snagging the detent or dimple on the receiver.

I've done it a time or 2, only reason I know.

If it is a spring like the one in the video, replace it with one of these...
Way better and way easier to remove and install.
Red Star Arms Retaining Plate replaces 'Shepherd's Hook.' Locks hammer & trigger pins. Fits most AKs. USA steel.

As you are pushing the selector lever back into place, try pulling the trigger all the way at the same time.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

This, if you have the spring back in, it is probably hanging up on the trigger disconnect. Sometimes you have to apply a little pressure (don't caveman it and bend it) down on the safety selector while pulling the trigger to get it to move past.

The red star FCG retaining plates are on all of my builds...so much easier and work well.
