I see Arsenals selling for 1300-1400 (2-300 OVER MSRP) locally and npaps go for around 700. What do I get with an Arsenal I don't get with NPAP?

Arsenal vs. NPAP

By locally, do you mean the market place on this site?
Cause this is a horrible place to base pricing. Some of the sellers/buyers here don't know up from down when buying/selling and pricing. -
I would get an SGL rifle over a SAM series any day. Milled receivers are heavy and really not any better than stamped units. Yugo pattern guns are a bit finicky with accessories.

Heck No, not this this site's marketplace! I try to avoid paying above MSRP on used stuff... I'm getting these prices for new rifles from LGS's (Sacramento area and via word of mouth for tracy rifle). For example, on their website River City Guns has "sale" pricing for a few arsenals listed at 2-300 OVER MSRP. Most shops around me are either too afraid, too ignorant of the law, or charge too much for internet xfers.Comment

You get polymer with Arsenal, and you get wood with NPAP. I think NPAPs now come with finished woods, which you may or may not like. I prefer the unfinished woods so I can stain the color I want.Comment

the NPAP has milled parts like FSB, GB etc...Arsenals are cast...different, and I like both...Comment

I'll bet the reason the Arsenals are 2 to 3 hundred more than MSRP when "on sale" is because of Obama banning Russian made stuff.
I recommended an NPAP to someone and I regret it. The front sight was so canted it couldn't be used. It needs to be removed, re-drilled, and re-mounted. The stock was also so oil stained that it needs to be replaced if he wants it to look nice. The safety stops don't work. It flies past the stops in both directions. This was during the insanity, so he had no choice but to order online - so he couldn't look it over before buying.
If you can afford it, go Arsenal. If you can't afford Arsenal, go NPAP. Fortunately, you're buying from a LGS, so you can look it over first. Select a good one and you should be GTG."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

No experience with an NPAP, but I have a slr104. It's a great rfle. You can purchase an arsenal online with confidence. You can't do that with an NPAP. Is it worth the $1000 I spent on it? I think so, but you get more value out of a cheaper AK variant as long as you can inspect it before buying.Last edited by chicoredneck; 03-25-2015, 10:09 AM.Comment

Love the quality of my SGL 21; put some Russian surplus wood on it and it looks great too. I have a Yugo pistol (Zastava PAP M92). . . it came with a canted rear sight and dust cover that doesn't fit quite right.sigpicComment

What you get with Arsenal is a good AK that what AK should be. What you get with Yugos is AK look a like rifles that "technically" is not an AK's.
I own a few AK's and have limited hands on experience with Yugos, I never had even a slightest urge to add one to my collection.Comment

$1300-$1400 for a stamped AK? Sorry I had a SAIGA and I was not impressed enough with it to spend more $$$ to convert it.
Next time I'll get a NPAP, Opap or Wasr and it it will already come with lip stick on that pigfor half the price.

the only reason the converted SAIGAs by Arsenal has increased in price is due to Russian imports not being imported by sanctions by our administration...they are great rifles nevertheless, once you get into AKs, we'd want AKs from every corner of the world, true that!Comment

I thought Arsenals were milled, not cast.
From the site;
Each SAM7R receiver is milled from a hot-die hammer forged receiver blank by the Arsenal Co. of Bulgaria. Other milled-receiver AKs are machined from bar stock, but Arsenal’s hot-die hammer forging produces stronger and finer-grained steel. Internal voids and cooling deformations are eliminated by the 5-ton hammer forging process.Comment
