    Making a "CA Legal" AK

Found this thread, which seems to have a great way to lock the clip into place:

    Questions:

    1. How can a that little hole in the trigger guard. A file maybe?

2.The rifle is now loaded through the ejection port? It seems difficult to hold it open and shove bullets in at the same time. Any solutions?

    1. Use a dremel tool.
    2. Use a spent shell casing inserted into ejection port to hold it open.

Get the blackjack safety that holds the bolt open.

I load mine by taking off the top cover, the recoil spring, and the bolt.

Load your 5 rounds, and re-assemble.

That sounds like way too much work for 5-10 rounds.

Takes all of 10 seconds to take apart 15 to reassemble, you can always go gripless, I do.

I don't want a fixed magazine AK. I am going to configure it like a Saiga by moving the triggerguard and trigger components back so I can use my 30 rounders and go detachable (no pistol grip).

For those of you who have not tried shooting the AK gripless yet, be careful. You must take a firm hold of the rifle stock with your shooting hand or the rifle can "double tap" on you. If you are just relying on the buttstock on your shoulder, and a grasp on the forearm with your other hand, and not taking a firm hold with the firing hand, the rifles recoil can "bounce" your finger back into the trigger making it fire another round. That can be bad because some ranges do not allow double taps, and it will scare the crap out of you if you're not expecting it and believed your rifle went full auto. I've seen it happen.

The place I shoot at has no restrictions on double taps, I like letting out a string of 5 or 6 myself.

Well, today after "pinning" the magazine, I took the AK to the range.

It is a real hassle loading that thing now.

Taking the top off isn't a real option, as there is a scope mounted on it.

Holding the ejection port open while trying to shove bullets into the magazine was difficult. Maybe it will get easier with practice?

It was such a hassle, that I would just hold the ejection port open, stick on bullet it, close it, shoot, and repeat. Very slow.

If anyone can think of any alternatives to this, I am listening.

Go gripless and use a detachable magazine. That's the only advice I can give because that's the way I'm building mine. As for double taps using a gripless AK, I didn't realize that would be a problem, but like with Microsoft products, it's not a bug, it's a feature!
As a point of reference, my gripless A2 self loading .223 rifle doesn't have the double tap feature, it keeps firing only one round with each intentional trigger pull.

                            1. As for the scope - use the standard AK side mount (a rail attached to the left side of the receiver). This way the scope can be changed in seconds.

                            2. I never undersood the obsession with pistol grip. I'd loose the grip and relocate the trigger the 'saiga' style.

                            3. An alternafive would be a weird stock that attaches where the pisol grip used to be, starts with a metal plate (so that you can place the web of your hand 2-3 mm above the top of the trigger) and continues with some kind of a buttstock. This will most likely be ugly as all hell but functional. Personally I could care less about ugliness, if the functionality is there.

I was thinking either this or the Jap Type 11 MG style stock on a slant cut sov style AKM receiver configuration.
