Urgent help needed with demilling AK kits

My buddy and I have everything we need to build our nds-3 rifles. Unfortunately, Dremels won't remove the rivets from the scraps of the old receivers very well. Furthermore, I can't seem to remove that cursed pin that holds the barrel to the trunnion. I was wondering if anybody in the sacramento area could help us out??? We have a buddy that has a drill press and an hydrolic press but he won't be in town for a month. I was wondering if anybody could lend a hand.

If it helps at all, we have Romanian kits.

If you read around on ak47.net, more than a few people have to drill the rivets out to weaken them. Start with a small bit and work your way up.

I know what to do. I've read that already. grinding the rivets till they are flat has been done. The remainder of the rivets just won't come out. Furthermore, that guys method if using a punch and hammer to remove the pin does not work. I just need the help of somebody that has done this and who has the proper tools

I don't have a drill press or a hydrolic press. That is why I'm asking for help.

I have a drill press, 12 ton press, and a grinder, the dremmel will work to grind the rivits flat but you should drill out the shafts of them.

Send me a PM and we can work something out.

I used an angle grinder (Roto-Zip with the right angle attachment), a drill press, a punch, and a hammer.

I think morepoop4u had a solution with a hammer and an 8mm socket head that worked really well for him, though.

I've used a Dremel to cut an "X" on the head of the rivet, use a large screwdriver to remove 3 of the quarters and grind off the last quarter. If is doesn't punch thru easily, I'll then drill a hole thru the middle to weaken it and a few blows with the hammer and punch, out it comes.

I've removed 5 or 6 of the barrel trunions with a hammer and a modified punch. The punch was cut off more towards the rear to give me more surface. With the receiver stub (rivets removed or grounded flat) on a large blacksmiths anvil....a few swings of the hammer and out it popped. Perfect each time.

Ain't nothing a good hammer or dremel can't fix.
