Vertical forward grip vs AVG vs nogrip

Can someone please explain the differences and benifets of the different grips available for ar's? I have a both vertical and angled forward grips and even a handstop and never really understood the plus/minus to them other than they look cool. Is it a personal preference thing?

I honestly prefer no grip. The vertical is tacticool but I shoot better without it.

personal preference deal. kinda like where people put their AFG's/VFG's, whether near the magwell or further down the handguard.

now that im using a bcm kmr (slimmer handguard), i just grip the tube, so no AFG/VFG.

its a preference thing. You should be able to pull the gun into you a little more and get a bit more stable for follow up shots. I run a hand stop so i can index the same spot and get a little more pressure to hold onto the gun.

I used to have no grip on my AR, then I put a VFG on it, and now I am going to put an AFG on it. If I am shooting from a bench/bag the VFG goes in the way, Off-hand I prefer the AFG to the VFG.

AFG is okay, I switched to hand stops to keep my guns featureless.

Vertical grip worked for me since my deployment, that or magwell. At the range I just use my bag

No grip, and further out on the handguard I grip the more stable it is, Magwell and closer holds are less stable for me

                  Wait. What?

I may have missed it, but I thought AFGs were determined not to have a "pistol style grasp" thus not triggering any of the feature language of CA PC. Did I miss a development on this front?

Personal preference. Try all three, but try them shooting as you shoot, not try them in front of a mirror.

If you're shooting off a bench any of those things is more of a hinderance than a help. If you're shooting with a sling in rifleman fashion you may find that those grips hinder where your support hand ends up in either prone sitting or standing.

Experiment with what works for you. A handstop works for me, but I've had to adjust it as I learn more, as where I keep it for playing run and gun games does not work for when I'm shooting for marksmanship.

                      This^

I've run PG, AFG, nubs ect ect and none of it really helps.

I now only run no grip or finger stops. Many just do it for fashion too. Usually the guys with 4 scopes, 3 BUIS and 10 grips, lights and lasers on 1 gun lol

If you search the forum on AFG and Featureless, you'll see a post by Fate saying that it's a No Go. But like all the other laws, it's a best guess since DOJ doesn't weigh in on these things.

I really like the look of the Magpul AFG but I can't force myself to like the way it grips. Hand stop just feels better for me.

This is more or less how I use mine but I have a different VFG that is just straight up and down and somewhat short. Mine is also further back. About at the midpoint on my 13 inch rail
