Tapco Gas tube issues. Any advice?

I am builing up a yugo. Got the whole T6 kit. It needed to put a gas tube on it so I bought the tapco one with the same handguard on it that came with the kit.(kill two birds ya know)

    Well it looks great but...
The gas tube lock on the side of the rear sight will not lock down. The thing slipped right into place without a hassle so it's not too long like I have heard of from others at times. The rear of it is square unlike most tube ends that are rounded off. Could this be the issue?

    Anyone else have this problem?

I know this is not the gunsmithing forum but I figure more folks look here who can give insight.

Oh BTW... It is an older yugo that was made without the flash hider and gernade launcher. And no I did not buy the one made for the other yugo with the flared tube end.

I also changed out the gas tube on my SKS(non yugo). I also purchased the one with a cover on it. In my experience you will need to file the tube down. Usually one side is square. Just file or sand at and angle little by little until it fits. Check it often while sanding for fit or you may sand or file too much.

Yep, had to do the exact same thing. The rod was about 1/64th of an inch too long. Did just a little filing on the end of the rod, slipped it back into the tube and and it went in with a little on the tap on the rear locking lug then I was able to rotate the locking cam.
Now I'm waiting for my trigger assembly to be returned from Murrays gunsmithing in Texas. Having him put in a USA made H/S/T set and a tune job. With my USA made Tapco Fusion 6 stock and pistol grip my 922r compliance process is complete.

So I need to sand the short SQUARE end down? The edges or the front of it?

BroncoBob: How much did that trigger job with parts cost ya? I'm thinking about doing this since I'm also having issues with the Tapco 10 round fixed mag.

The end that needs to be modified is the end that touches the more to the rear of thr rifile not the front.

jih95811: The total for the H/S/T set and tune up with return shipping cost was $128.50. (78.50 H/S/T set + $45.00 tune up + $5.00 shipping) I suggest that you contact Ben Murray at Murrays Gunsmithing to make the arrangements. He's a real nice guy to do work with. Turn around time is generally one day which is nice.

              ONE DAY!?!?
So I could send it out and have it back tomorrow?
Seriously though I think I know what you meant. He only has it for a day then sends it back out right? So I could actually have it back in 10 days or so depending on shipping methods?

Ben is awsome to work with! My SKS has one of his "kits" in it. I think one of the first that was sent to California. Your gonna like it.

Ask Ben about the French pigs.

You could have it back sooner if you want to pay big $$$$ for special handling like NDA or 2DA. I would think reasonable turn around time from when you ship it via Priority US mail is somewhere between 5 to 10 days depending. I shipped mine via USPS priority mail with insurance (up to $200.00) and it cost me like $7.40.

French pigs huh? This should be interesting....

Thanks for the input regarding Ben. Always nice to know that a fellow calgunner is pleased with his work even after I read good reviews from the SSB website.
