    Savage model 99 optic help

I recently recived a Savage model 99 chambered in 300 savage.

Below the lever I see a 26D encompased in a small 2/3rd crecent circle shape

    Serial number is 668-6XX

    Barrel appears to be 23.5”

Im trying to figure out scope mounting options. It has a beaver tail sighting system and i dont see any holes in the front for mounting. On the back of the tang their appear to be several holes (3 of them) one has what looks like is a taped in rod and the other 2 that have been drilled and have screws in them. Unsure as to what options are availble to me. Any help is appreciated.

Bryan, sounds like you have a 1952 Savage Model 99EG. It was not drilled and tapped for a scope at the factory. Keep it original. An option to mount a modern scope would be to use a Lightfoot mount uses the rear sight dovetail and the two screw holes on the rear tang (that were orinally put there to mount an aperture sight). A fellow out in California makes and sells the mount. Check out the Savage 99 Club on Facebook, he is a member there. I'm attaching a picture of the mount on my 99EG.

The two screws on the rear tang are originally for mounting an aperture (peep) sight. the other "rod" you mentioned is the cocking indicator (up is tells you the rifle is cocked. See 2dn attachment for pic.
