    New Savage Scout Rifle

Sorry if this is a repeat but I think this looks pretty interesting. Looking forward to some in-depth reviews. Savage 11 Scout.

well.. first off.... I simply dont "get" the scout rifle concept.....

2nd... what the heck is that 2nd sling stud doing there???????

    Thats useless.....

3rd.... A regular savage rifle has an msrp lower than that... and is more useful.....

this whole "scout rifle" kick just leaves me confused... Like that double barrel tactical shotgun with rails......

dont knock it til you try it

i prefer a flush magazine though like the 10fcm which has come and gone in their lineup in the past

I saw a video from the SHOT show and the guy from Savage said the mags were compatible with previous rifles... didn't go into details but I'd be surprised if they don't come out (or have one already) with a flush magazine.

              Go Steyr or go home??

Another dorkey copy of the dorkey Gunsite scout. Kind of a non-tacticool "scout" rifle with a huge muzzle brake.

Other than the brake and forward scope mount, looks to be more or less the same as a regular Savage rifle.

Buy a Springfield SOCOM 16 and be done with it. Instead of screwing around with that thing.

Buy whatever floats your boat, because all you're going to get here is a bunch of grumpy answers.

Not defending it or the scout rifle concept, but still an interesting entry to compete with Ruger and Mossberg. Monetarily not in the same ballpark as the Steyr or Springfield.

Seems a bit overpriced. Considering their "Hog hunter" series of rifles are almost identical and are much cheaper. I could do without the brake and maybe a lower capacity mag that doesn't stick out so far.

I never understood a muzzle brake on a bolt action rifle.

It's the rifle to have if you could only have one rifle.
It's light enough to carry for a long time.
The Ching Sling makes a quick and practical shooting sling.
The forward mounted scope allows you to clear the action and reload a blind or floorplate magazine with stripper clips.
The low power scope makes shooting with both eyes open easy and target acquisition quick.
The shorter barrel makes the gun handier and lighter.
The synthetic stock is stable in all weather and rugged.
The receiver mounted peep sight is quick and easy to use (should you take the scope off for whatever reason).
The .308 chambering is a useful (not necessarily ideal) size for everything that walks (and some things that swim) and breathes in North America.
Finally, the bolt action is largely dependable and easy to maintain with minimal tools and supplies.

Of course, this makes the gun a complete compromise; so if you can have more than one gun there's little to no point in owning one other than it might be fun.

I'd just as soon they got rid of the box magazine and sold the rifle with 10 stripper clips. Or, sold the rifle with a flush detachable box magazine that can be recharged with stripper clips, sold the rifle with 10 stripper clips, and sold the extended box magazine as an accessory. Also I'd dump the cheek riser, it's just something else to get lost, break, whatever on what would be a utility gun. The muzzle break doesn't make it or break it for me, but I feel it is unnecessary.

                          Exactly.

The ability to use 1903 stripper clips would be perfect, since there are a ton of those still around.

They're trying to compete with Ruger's Gunsite Scout Rifle. Col. Cooper would have deemed the Ruger and this Savage as pseudo scouts because they're made on the cheap and have unnecessary features like muzzle brakes.
