Browning stock replacement

I have an older Browning Belgium made Hi-Power model 264Win mag rifle. It has the mil type 98 action. I am thinking of changing the stock to a B&C stock. I do not know what one to order.
Has anyone ever restocked one of these and if so what model stock did you use?

It is a nice looking rifle and I have the 11 remaining cartridges from the only box of ammo which was fired thru it. There are no dings in the stock. Not sure why I got it since I already have a excellent 264Win mag. But I did.

I called B&C before I posted. They were unable to give me an answer.

That's weird. I would bet the standard 98 would fit I put one on my FN Mauser and it fit perfect.

Mauser made a magnum action even though the standard action is more popular and many a magnum has been built on one. I think B&C is trying to error on the side of caution in order to avoid getting a stock back.

Measure the length of the action from the tip of the tang to the front of the tenon then make sure it is 1.410 on the front of the receiver right behind the little contoured area were the barrel threads in or tenon.

I would put money on it that you have a large ring Mauser as Toby has pointed out but there is always a chance of it being a magnum.

There are supposedly 4 Mauser lengths with the two most common being small ring and large ring but they also made a Spanish model and a magnum.

On Mausers not made by Browning it was also common for gunsmiths to cut them in half in order to make specialty length actions by welding them back together after adding or removing metal.

I checked out the rifle and it looks like the Mauser 98 large ring stock will work if I keep the rifle. Already have a custom one that shoots great so not sure I need another.
