    Pimp my levergun

Love to see some of your recent mods. I just completed several on mine. (My gun is a 2013 remlin, btw. Great gun, so far. Fit and finish are very good.)

    1. Install a shortened version of XS's lever rail, basically mimicking their lever scout rail, with a tad more real estate. (I was sent the lever rail by mistake and decided to simply mod it rather than send it back. I'd had it a year or so, and finally decided I didn't want to be stuck with XS's proprietary peep sights.

    2. Install Williams firesights with rear peep/ghost ring.

The plan is to run a forward-mounted scout scope when I can afford a good one, and use the irons until then.

    here's a few pics

Here's a few more detail shots of the Williams sights. They're awesome, btw. Haven't tested them yet since this was a very recent install, and I'm actually going remove everything and blue locktite everything before I zero it, but the sight picture is much more clear than the original buckhorn setup.

I like the fact that this setup is completely reversable, though, in case my tastes change later on.

When I envisioned "pimp my lever gun".... I would personally put those big brass thumbtacks in the stock in a funky design just like the Native American Indians used to.

but to each his own and yours is definitely more functional.
I'm glad you made use of something that was the wrong order that have been sent you.
that reminds me of the good ol days when that's just what you would do.

(I'd like one or two more pictures of the rifle left side / right side in some good light but I know that may be a hassle.)

        Looking good Sir...!

Please post a couple of photos of the complete rifle. And what Caliber?

I am a fan of Skinner Sights and while I have several JM barreled Marlins, I recently bought a Remlin 30-30 for a trunk gun. Yeah, it functions but the Matt finish isn't close to the rich bluing of the Marlin.....nor is the wood. But hey, it was only $400 bucks..... I did change out the stock to a Champion Plastic...

        I did take is apart and de horned all moving parts, lubed well and cycled the action 1000 times while watching the 'Rifleman' on Saturday morning...;

        Haha, well almost..

Learning to shoot really well with it off-hand is all the "pimping" that a good lever-action rifle needs.

This is about as pimped as I want to get.

nice, have you sighted it in yet? you should mount a scout scope on it and report back. i did that to my winny 94 treinta treinta and love it

That's what I have on my 45-70, its a Burris Scout scope. Baby kicks like a mule.

I'll definitely post up some full lenth pics asap.

If I was to "pimp out" my lever gun, I would put the leather stock mounted she'll holder, the large lever loop and a set of skinner aperture sights on it.
I'm old, but my distance vision is still pretty fair so I wouldn't scope it as my longest shots with it will be at or about 100 yards, plenty doable with iron sights.
Lever gun for shooting in heavier cover, for longer ranges I have a scoped bolt gun.
I took a deer this year at 70 yards with the open buckhorn sights, deer was running and I was able to keep on target well with the open sights.

The only external mod on my lever gun is the removal of the stupid safety in the top of the bolt. All the other mods are internal. Guess that makes a photo useless...
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Ok, so I took my Marlin out for a spin. Here's a pic of my group (red arrow) at about 25 yards using the Williams peep sights with the fiber optic front sight.

I know 25 yards isn't a huge deal, but even at 25 yards I honestly couldn't do much with the sight picture with the stock sights. The peeps do a ton to magnify the image to my eye and the red fiberoptic is a huge improvement, too.

Even though I need to adjust windage and elevation a bit, having that tight a group is a good start, IMO.

Wild West Happy Trigger, Comb Riser, VX-3 1.75-6x32 with German #4 Reticle. When I installed the trigger I also polished all of the internals of the receiver and loosened the barrel band to improve harmonics.
It is a true MOA shooter. I like peep sights but my eyes aren't good enough for them any more.
