MDT New Chassis - HS3

I was liking the Magpul offering... but may end up using MDT's new tricks

Meh. Personally I have no need for a bolt rifle (in a chasis) that is lightweight. I am not a hunter, I like a heavy bolt gun to give me low recoil and high stability.

Depends on what do you with it though. The 2 pound chassis doesn't include the stock, install a magpul PRS and now you're at 3.9 pounds, add a grip that weighs what 3 ounces? Now you're at 4 pounds. That's 7 ounces shy of a KRG whiskey 3, 3 ounces heavier than an xlr evolution, and roughly the same as the mcmillan a3 and a5 if I remember correctly(give or take a few ounces since I know they offer different fill weights).

It's kind of misleading to refer to any of the MDT chassis as being lightweight, since they're missing components included in other chassis/stocks, and you can make fairly drastic changes by using different components(although I doubt many are rushing to slap a carbine buffer tube and minimalist stock on these things)

I don't see the value that this (or any of the MDT line) has over something like a KRG X-ray or XLR Element especially since both can be had cheaper.

This one in particular is $500 before you get a buttstock for it. That's going to run you at least another $200.

The chassis itself isn't what I'm finding expensive since its on the lower end of the spectrum as far as chassis go, but it doesn't seem to me that it is a great value.

The KRG whiskey 3 with it's adjustable LOP, vertically adjustable recoil pad, and adjustable cheek piece runs $939 for the fixed version, $1299 for the folder.

Adding up the MDT HS3 to include the same features:
$500 for the chassis
$225 for the magpul PRS(for the LOP and cheek adjustment)
$100 for the JP adjustable buttplate for the PRS
$20 for the buffer tube to mount the PRS

That's $845, leaving you $94 for a pistol grip of your choice.

$30 for the ACE receiver block
$75 for the ACE folding stock mechanism

$950 for the MDT with a folding mechanism(with $350 left over for the grip, and whatever else you might want to add).

The AICS 1.5 is $930, with the 2.0 folding version running $1130.

Subtract $100 if you go with the MDT LSS instead of the HS3 and you end up with $745 or $850. If you want to compare it to the x-ray, replace the $335 modified PRS with pretty much any other stock and cheek riser on the market, and you get much closer to the $590 asking price for that stock. It's actually comparable once you start counting features, adding up parts, and compare the end result to something similar.

edit: Oh yeah, you could also replace the $105 for the ACE folding mechanism with the $130 MDT folding mechanism(can't remember if they're actually shipping that yet). Just pointing out another option.
