Remington 700 -- Ejects fine, but difficult to feed new round..??

After I fire, pulling bolt handle back ejects the spent cartridge without issue... but when I try loading a new round from the magazine, it is very tough to get the bolt to feed the new round. I had to sort of knock the new round forward into the chamber with the bolt handle a few times.

Is there a feed ramp I should oil, or anything simple that comes to mind?

Did you just add a scope? Does your bolt show any sign of rubbing against anything?
One set screw is longer than the other, and will rub against the bolt making it hard to chamber a round. It will shoot and eject just fine.

My 700 which I bought in 2011 had this exact problem, and it seemed to get worse with the McRee Chasis and AICS mags. Unfortunately I sold it before ever really trouble shooting it. I bought a 783 at the end of 2013 and the problem was about 10 times worse. With the 783 I was able to bend the spring clip on the muzzle end of the magazine out so the tension was greater. I think this ever so slightly pushed the front of the magazine up and let it seat better.

If you have an internal magazine, maybe try shimming the magazine spring itself. If you are running DBM, see how the magazine seats and see if you can play around with the tension between it and the mag well.

What caliber is it? If it's a WSM that short action is gonna have a hard time feeding it.

You need to ramp/polish mag box if front where the radius cut is leading into machined feed ramp of receiver.

Use a rat tail file and then polish with silicon carbibe cloth wrapped around a 1/2" dowel.

Also polish the underside of feed lips machined into receiver.

I purchased the rifle pre-built. Doesn't feel like anything is rubbing against the bolt, as it is smooth without the loaded magazine installed. I'd think the tension from a screw would be felt in all cases.

This seems like what it needs. Thanks for the recommendation. Definitely feels like a friction issue.

My .308 SPS Tac was fine, but the .223 SPS Tac that I bought a short time later did this. I just shot it a bit and it smoothed out. YMMV.
