    Looking for good gunsmith

I'm looking for a good gunsmith in the inland empire area who can take a look at my newly acquired marlin lever action .44 magnum rifle. It was given to me by my grandfather and is a late 1970s model. Any help would be appreciated!! Also looking for a good engraver to do some scroll work on it!

With the AR/AK craze there just isn't too many choices for real gunsmiths anymore.
    I would try here .

They are an old school gunsmith that still does things like re-barreling and drilling and tapping receivers for scopes.
I'm guessing you want an inspection, head spacing etc.
They could probably put you on to an engraver.

Unless it is rusted shut or run over by a car it should be safe to shoot. To get a good engraver the engraving will cost more than the gun. It won't increase the value unless it's by a famous engraver.

Is there something wrong with it? Or do you just want engraving?
Most common issue is the cartage carrier.

I would find some local cowboy action shooters and ask them.

You won't find firearm engravers these days that are worth a crap.

Go to a custom jewelry shop....they have real engravers.

I met Jim Downing at SHOT this year. He is a true artist and nice guy too.

Wow, I guess this is where we all bow down and shat.

You met some random dude at SHOT and know for a fact that he does good work, in a timely manner, for a reasonable price, and stands behind it 100%.

Sounds as bad as Kestryl standing behind his advertisers shoddy products because they pay him. Trash must be glorified, right ?

How very democrat (and I am not politically minded in the slightest).

Uh, I never said he was inexpensive or had a fast turnaround time. As far as his work goes, yes, I watched him working on a revolver frame for a while and other examples of his work were on display. You can see examples of his work on the net or in a book written about him. Even though you said they don't exist today, he is a well known and highly respected firearms engraver.

That Marlin is yours so do with it what you wish, but I wouldn't engrave it. Aftermarket engraving, like refinishing the stock or reblueing the metal, will just kill its value.
