Help with Rem700 barrels 300winmag.

Does anyone know if the fit of the barrels have changes over the years between the older Rem700's and the New models with the X-trigger?

I have a newer model 300wm with the XHR (triangle barrel) and I want to get a standard sporting barrel with threaded muzzle.
I've seen a few nice new/used barrels on Ebay but I'm not sure if they will fit depending on what year of gun they were made for. Does anybody know if the year matters?

Just to be clear so we are comparing apples to apples. I'm planning to switch barrels of same caliber (300wm) and both are sporting (non bull barrel).

In general, they are all pretty close.
I put a 2010 barrel on to a 1962 receiver and it headspaced correctly with a factory lug.
Just because it SOMETIMES works that way, don't expect it to work that way every time though.
I have done barrel swaps on current producton guns with a new current production barrel where the headspace was 0.007" off.
In headspace dimension terms, that's WAY off.

So, until you have the particular barrel and the particular receiver and measure both of them, there is NO WAY to know they will fit correctly without additional work.
Now, headspace corrections can be done a few different ways depending on how much correction is needed so it's almost always possible to make any barrel work on any receiver.

The tenon is the same so they will swap out but as Randall has posted you can get a lemon barrel from the factory.

The prices on E-Bay run around $100 for a factory barrel in 7mm Remington magnum and 300 Winchester magnum and they get $125 for the Ultra Mags and WSM cartridges which is high in my opinion.

If your planning on getting several different chamberings because you already have the magnum boltface look for a gunsmith on one of the varmint or benchrest forums that pulls alot of barrels off. They will usually get them to you for $50 to $75 if you buy two or more barrels at a time. They can also make sure you dont get a lemon.
