Hi I'm not sure if their a thread on hear but would like to know. I have an Savage Axis II in 30-06, now can i used old 30-06 milspec ammo on it or is their a difference on the round itself. This also counts as steel case also. Thanks and advanced

I would use a brass case. That rifle is not a Russian rifle. Feed it with American dignity.

How old is the mil-spec ammo and what does it look like? Show pics if possible.

Yes modern rifles are designed for higher chamber pressures than old milspec rifles like the 03A3.

From what I know the 30-06 is one of the few cartridges that have not been changed all that much, including the chambers and rife twists. Any ammo in modern guns is GTG. Shoot with confidence.

Make sure it isn't corrosive. 1953 is a safe cut off date for U.S. corrosive ammo production. Some foreign .30 ball was corrosive for its entire run such as the Austrian ball (OJP) that flooded the U.S. a decade ago.

Exactly. Again you can find all sorts of info on the headstamp.

I have about 10k rounds of Denmark 42 stamped 30-06 API ammo I've been shooting since forever.
It's not corrosive and it runs just fine in my Remmy 700 and Sako Finnbear.

BTW, Denmark 42 is WWII ammo, armor piercing incendiary.
                    No problems whatsoever

Thorax---You have problems if you are shooting(or have) API ammo in Calif.

                        NOT LEGAL.

Methinks your "Denmark 42" 30/06 is actually "DEN 42" = Denver arsenal
I can't imagine the Danes making 30/06 for the krauts -

30-06 armor piercing is legal ammo and listed on the ATF web site as being OK. I doubt you'll find steel cased 30-06. The Korean surplus ammo is corrosive. Incendiary (orange tip) is a no no in CA.
