    338 Edge...Range Report Post #32

Got my barreled action today from Dana over at English Rifles in Florida. Took about 7 weeks with shipping both ways! Pretty good turnaround time considering...not as fast as Randall of course

Going to try to play with the big boys now. 91gr +/- 1gr of H1000 is about where I think I will be with 300gr hybrids and slinging them hopefully around 2800-2850 fps. Should get me to 1900 yards supersonic and with the 300gr hybrid OTM, they supposedly do well in the transonic zone.

I'll shoot this in my f-class stock just to get some rounds down range with it, but I am waiting on my McMillan A-5 so I can drop in the barreled action and run it in a more conventional setup.

I've narrowed my scope to a Kahles K624i or a Vortex Razor Gen II so I can get enough elevation to reach a mile or more with a 20MOA base.

If anyone was interested in a 338 Edge, I would recommend Dana at English Rifles. He has the reamer already and he even made me a case that works with the hornady OAL gauge. He took one of my pieces of brass, threaded the back end of it for the hornady tool, then expanded the neck enough for my bullet to pass in and out of. I didn't even ask for this!!!

Now, that's nice. What's the make of the action?

See you on the range soon. Now that I got my action back, I can spin this barrel off and finish my load development on my f class 284 shehane. I'm going to make the Feb match for sure. Not sure about January since I have the steel match with the NCPPRC guys on that same sunday.

If your rifle is a single-feed, you may as well go with the CEB 267gr or 277gr single-feed bore-riders. You can drive them at significantly higher velocities and the ballistics are as good or better.

It is in a single feed action.

The BC is about 0.007 better than the 300gr OTM and the CEB is almost double the cost of the bergers.

I tried to run some ballistic numbers on it and the advantages are there if you can drive them more than 100fps faster, which might be possible given that they are about 23gr lighter. @ 2K, the drop difference is about 3 mils which I guess is significant at that range, but for double the price...eeak.

I am running 267s. At present, I am about 200fps faster than where 300gr jacketed bullets started exerting pressure signs, and I still have more room for extra velocity with the 267s. The difference is night and day if you ask me.

i believe you. im looking at a 6mm creedmoor build and even though the 140gr hybrid has a higher BC, you can't ignore a lower BC 105gr hybrid moving at 3100+ fps vs 2800fps for the 140gr hybrid.

I might give them a try. still haven't thrown rounds down range with it. i got some charge weights made up all the way to 92gr and we'll see where the pressure signs start.

I built an almost matching pair of 6creedmoor rifles today.
Bartlein medium palmas finished at 26.5" with JEC brakes.
