    Range Results: Fireforming 6.5x55 Ackley

I'm happy with the results, Randall put together a nice stick.

All 5rnd groups unless otherwise noted.

Measuring a hole in the paper, .196" (conservatively) I'll subtract this from my group measurements for a MOA size.

    (.534 - .196) = .338 MOA @ 44.5gr of RL22

    .320 MOA @ 45gr

    .282 MOA @ 45.5gr

    .238 MOA @ 44gr

    .118 MOA @ 43.5gr

And just for fun, a 7 round group @ .424 MOA

    Sucess!

    Looking really nice there Cobra!

What kind of load development are you doing or were you simply fireforming?

          Thank you, sir.

I was finding the accuracy node for my low pressure fireforming loads. I figure might as well if you're going to be firing hundreds anyways.

Now I can go out and have fun at 600 yards while fire-forming.

We should have spun on a fireforming barrel.
Then, you can fireform all your cases in an old shot-out barrel and put on the good barrel later...

I don't shoot for groups a lot, so accurate albeit somewhat low pressure and velocity fireforming loads are fine by me. If I was next door to a 1500 yard range it'd be different and I'd want every shot out of the barrel to be 3100fps.

If you don't mind me adding a bit to this. I have shot a .257 Ackley for some time now and what I learned to do when fire forming for it is this. I shoot a 100 grain anything bullet with a suggested starting load with the bullet seated out just far enough to bump up tight to close the bolt and let them lose to the target. Almost all of my groups look just like yours as does the reloaded finished product. Make sure you sizing die has a air vent hole in it mine doesn't and the air will get trapped at the top and cause what looks like oil dents but they aren't they are air dents. I have never had to trim my cases they simply don't stretch, the primer pockets go or neck cracks before the need trimming. The Ackley is a "great" improvement over the factory parent. Flat, accurate, hard hitting rounds and for only a little more powder than the parent, ya cant beat them. Old P.O. was way ahead of his time.Enjoy your Ackley.

Thanks elk. Shes been hitting the smallest plates at 500 and 600 with fireforming loads like nothing. Going to shoot the ai rounds the weekend to work up a load then some 1000y + shooting.

Thanks. I didnt quite realize how well it did until I brought out the calipers at home. The 7 round group was just a dump of the rest of that ammo I had and it's still respectable!
