    New Howa 1500 Mag Problems??

Just picked up this rifle the other day, have not shot it yet so I will wait to see what happens

I got the model that has the 10? rd mag .308
but the few times ive tried to load the mag I can only get in 9 rounds
since the feed lips are thin plastic I dont want to try to force in the 10th round
Here is about as far as I can get with the 10th round before the plastic deforms
You can also see the scratch marks on the plastic how far back I go, before I stop as I dont want to bend it out too much
its really tight where I stop so thats why 9 rounds seems like its all it holds

even using 2 types of ammo, same problem

Just wondering why it only holds 9 rounds when im pretty sure it had claimed to hold 10

I did order a new mag from midway but it may be the exact same
The importer legacy sports say the mags are ATI
but the stamping on my mag has the legacy info stamped on it, no ati brand name that I can see

Mine would hold 10 but the last round was tight. I ended up installing the internal mag and bottom metal because the plastic trigger guard cracked after torquing to 40ft. lbs... those plastic parts don't seem very rugged.

480 inch pounds would be asking a bit much! It was torqued to 40 inch pounds though, guess I goofed when I typed that up

what tool is used for that torque
I have a 1/4 torque wrench that can do 40 inch lbs I think

or are there tiny tools for these parts like the type ive seen for plumbing that just strip internally when you go too tight, they call those small drivers torque too

I was surprised to see mine had that internal type magazine included with my rifle and it was steel

but the mag conversion that was already installed on mine made from plastic

wonder why they didnt do it out of metal?

I had also emailed legacy but still no response

aren't the action screws supposed to be torqued to 60 inch pounds?

40 is quite enough for cap screws.
40 is actually too much for the stock flat head screws.

well I took the rifle to the range last week and accidentaly got 10 rounds in the mag wasnt really paying attention
still very tight to do that and I did load 10 rds like 5 times

got a new mag in the mail, same exact type and 10 goes in just fine

so I may take apart both see if there is a difference inside

still never heard back from legacy either, guess its hard for them to send email's?
