Little off topic, but my dta srs covert goes into its wait period tonight. Personally I dig the setup because it allows me to invest in one platform and go from there. Also it just fits me, I'd recommend getting a hold of one and seeing if you like the ergos first. Picking one up in a shop out of state was the costliest decision I've made!

I'm just sad that I'm starting off with a cheaper optic, because I couldn't afford the optic and the rifle right off the bat. Hopefully the VXR patrol 3x9 will last me until I can afford a nf or khales!

At this point, it seems like a no-brainer for the OP. In his case, I'd not get the DT because:
      1. He's a southpaw, so wait for a lefty configuration to come out if you want one since the right-handed bullpup won't be a good idea.
      2. One of the big pros of an SRS is that you can add on a cartridge up to a .338 Lapua Improved for a relatively small incremental charge compared to what it would cost to get one on its own. However, it seems that the OP recently did a .338 Edge built, so this is far less of a plus.

A DT and a custom build are completely apples and oranges. If you like the DT, you should get one eventually, but I'd wait.

not a southpaw...although i practice southpaw a lot. im also cross eye dominant so southpaw isnt actually that bad.

My .338 edge switchbarrel will be done in a few days. some finishing touches to the FB to get the correct dimension so i can run 300gr hybrids with my bullet seated out of the donut region and my smith making me a cartridge to check seating depth and it should be delivered no later than mid next week. Shout out to Dana @ English Rifles if anyone wants to do a 338 edge build. Leadtime was about 5 weeks. I cant wait to sling those 300 grainers @ 2800-2850 fps.

as much as I like the concept, Vu and JMP and Lynn are right...for me, not the best way to go. a dedicated LA or another SA with just simple switchbarrels if I so choose, is probably the way to go for my shooting. I do like AICS chassis and have gotten really used to it and there are so few left with it being discontinued that I need to jump on getting one before stock runs out of the 1.5 version. Or else...an extra 200 bucks will need to be thrown down for the 2.0 folder version which seems like there is plenty out there.

if anyone was interested in one, there is one up for sale in the classifieds for the SRS-A1. Just do a search.

DTA does not make a .223. A very good company that specializes in custom DTA conversion kits makes them. I want to say it's Short Action Customs. Not sure. I haven't bought one . . . yet. I am eyeing the 6mm BR though. Let me know if you want me to research the company that makes them. They have an EXCELLENT reputation, although I can't attest to it . . . yet.

Yeah, its SAC. Here's what they say:

Desert Tactical Arms .223 Remington and .300 Blackout conversion: Short Action Customs is in the process of making the first ever .223 Remington and .300 Blackout caliber conversions for the Desert Tactical Arms weapon systems. Now DTA owners can get valuable trigger time with their weapon for a fraction of the cost. Currently we have a working prototype that we are making some revisions to and we are hoping to get some parts in production shortly. Please feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email. Stay tuned.

I friggen love my DTA and BEAST. Great combination. Its like chocolate and peanut butter with a side of TANG.

AI just announced they will be releasing a left handed switch barrel rifle. I believe it's the AT in short action only, but I could be wrong.

Thats actually whats holding me back right now. that and the fact that shooting left handed would not be ideal. either with the design.

Scuttlebutt is that SAC will produce 100 units of .223 conversion kits after the first of the year, they are getting final pricing together now. Check their youtube channel.

Scuttlebutt is that DTA will announce a 10 round magazine at SHOT, I would assume for cartridges based on .308 brass, but who knows.

                    Vu actually has it right.
If you are switching between rifles something always goes wrong if they are different platforms.
The key to winning in most competitive sports is having good equipment and then not making any big mistakes. You can recover from little things but one big mistake will take you out of the running.
If you put the buttstocks on both rifles so they are touching the bullpup will have the bolt handle half a foot farther to the rear so you will pull your hand back after getting off of the trigger. This would not be a problem if all your rifles are set up this way. If they are not it will feel very awkward.
You also run the risk of mishandling your rounds between shots. Being very smooth without ever lifting your head is a monumental advantage if done correctly.

Well isn't that a fine kettle of fish? Here I was, secure in the knowledge that I wouldn't be tempted by a DTA bolt gun due to no left-handed model.

As someone that owns a DTA I HIGHLY recommend getting behind a rifle before you buy it. These are not for everyone.

What I will say is my opinion based on the ton of Precision rifles Ive owned:

This rifle rocks period. For me I couldn't ask for a better platform. This is NOT, I REPEAT NOT a "match" rifle (IMHO). I own this rifle in 308, 300win and 338l. For the long action mag rounds its awesome. The rifle itself is VERY short. It allows a user to run a very long barrel without carrying a very large rifle around. The quick change caliber system is awesome. When I leave CA and get silencers finally this is the ultimate setup for them. It keeps the length very short. Ive personally never had any issues with my platform. I sold one of my AIs and planning on selling the other to buy a DTA SRS A-1 Covert. I still have my 243/6.5cm/7wsm rifles though. For what you spend on a DTA platform you can buy a gun collection.

Soon I will ONLY be shooting my DTA. Ill be selling off all my other rifles. It shoots as good as any other rifle ive got. Never had any issues and idea of running one platform that is short works. My covert will wear a RAZER 2 and a normal SRS will wear a Beast.
