Marlin Model 3000 questions.

So, my amazing GF bought me a used 1987 Marlin Model 3000 for my birthday. This one to be exact: http://www.gunauction.com/buy/12995266 I am ecstatic about it and have tried to do my research but haven't been able to find a whole lot. From what I can gather it is basically a Model 336 with lower end wood. Is this correct?
If that is the only difference, how hard is it to find new wood for it if I decide to upgrade?
Will all model 336 parts fit this rifle? (Considering getting a larger loop lever for it if I can.)
I'll be picking it up over Thanksgiving and hopefully getting it right out to the range. Any info I should know before I go? Any tips from the lever action gurus? This will be my first lever action rifle and I can't wait to shoot it.

I'd leave it alone or refinish it with some darker stain.

These need some fitting, they are NOT plug N play. I bought a forearm stock for my Rossi 92 carbine. I never fitted it because I'm too lazy and don't have the talent.

Yeah, just shoot it and enjoy it. I love my 336s and 30-30.

So many of these fine rifles exist it's easy to spend money on extras that exceed the base cost. Haha. But hey, it's my decision and who cares?

I decided to pimp out a 336 with some plastic stocks that won't mind wet weather or bumping around in my car trunk. Bought some and I have to tell you they don't fit out of the box... But I was stuck in my reloading room for the afternoon. The foregrip was I.25 inches too long. Had to chop saw the back end, re-cut the flange in the back, lots of on and off to get it perfect.

I count my time in the gun room as vacation time and the work was worth it.

Ordered some Skinner Sights (winged, front and back) and so another $172 bucks just to make me smile.....

The wood on these Marlins is good. Also hard to find and fit. By removing mine I can protect it and the black plastic also weighs less.

I want to protect the wood. The plastic weighs less and is impervious to water.



With the winged skinner sights. The marlin above is a 1894 Cowboy Limited in .44 magnum and 24 inch barrel. Just picked it up this afternoon....

Just to clarify.. My understanding is that the only difference between the 3000 and the 336 is the quality of the wood used in the stock and forearm. Is this not the case? Is it actually mechanically a lower end rifle?

I don't know if every part is exactly the same, but the design is the same.
Furniture is probably the main difference and perhaps less polishing on the metal.
