Looking to get more capacity in my Rossi m92

I'm thinking of just cutting some 38special brass in half and loading them with .358 124grain cast bullets. Assuming they feed, this will give me an 18 inch barrel lever gun with a 20 round capacity! Good idea or bad? What say you guys?

      Assuming they feed...
When most Rossi owners express an issue with (high-speed-) feeding the slightly shorter .38s, I'd be curious how this works out for you. Neat idea, though.

      Good luck.

Just tried it, doesn't work. It'll feed with one bullet in the mag, but any more and they all jam

These guns are very sensitive about oal of the cartridge. Some of them like only 38 sp length or 357 mag length but not both. There's are high probability of getting one of the "sensitive" ones.

All Win 92 based guns are sensitive to cartridge length. I have a Browning 92 in .357 that chokes on .38 loads. .357's are no problem.

Marlins are the same way. If you want more capacity get a rifle with a longer barrel and mag tube. Sucks but thats life.

Have you considered buying a spare carrier and building a shell stop at the appropriate length for your mini-shells?

I thought only 22lr tubes were allowed to hold more than 10rds in CA.

How about something like a shotgun speed loader?

I seem to remember reading that tubular magazines, generally, are exempt from that. There are plenty of SASS guns out there with 20" and even 24" barrels that take 14-15 rounds.

EDIT; Ah, yes, here's the relevant section. If it's a tubular magazine in a levergun, you're good to go.

More capacity = Advantage to let error guns. The 24" barrel will hold more. I have the 20" barrel and am pleased with it.

You can trim the magazine spring... I think I took off about three cartridge lengths...

I am not sure about getting more capacity. I have the Rossi 92 16" 38/357.
These guns should be sold as "kit guns" in my opinion. From the factory they can be questionable as to reliability.
If you have the nerve and ability, get the Steve's Guns dvd! After I did what he does in the video, that little Rossi will be slick and smooth and reliable!
Mine shoots both .38 and .357 completely reliably now! So much so my father wants me to do the same to his 92.

Mine was unreliable, I worked the action 2000 times while watching Netflix and that fixed the problem perfectly.
